Well Genjutsu is basicaly an illusion created by manipulating the other's chakra. Once Naruto realized everything around him is an illusion he figured out he is already in Itachi's Genjutsu, confused as to when he cast it since naruto did not make eye contact with Itachi(who can cast genjutsu with his Sharingan). As to the 8 inner gates formations we've seen Rock Lee use up to 5th gate when fighting Gaara in the 3rd chuunin exam prelims. With the added mention that opening the 8th gate means you die afterwards. Since Guy thought this to Rock Lee it means he can do it himself. Also if you remember, neither Kisame nor Itachi did come here to capture someone, but to stop both Leaf teams from reaching the spot
