It’d taken you a while to overcome it all. “Going to a party with all these handsome guys? Who’re totally naked?? Look how good they all look! I don’t think they’d want me around...” That voice never came from them, but was manufactured within. Always stepping in front of you before ever giving yourself the chance to love something. But here you are now!

It started with Robby. The hunky kangaroo who would run next to you on the ellipticals at the gym. Even though a total stranger, he’d always cheer you on and encourage you to go for one more mile. Just one more! His cheers were annoying at first. Feeling like everyone was staring at you. But something about his voice pushed you a little bit past your limits. Even on days when he wasn’t there, you did it anyway! Before long, both you and Robby started talking a lot more. Becoming workout buddies and going on runs around the lake downtown. There was a glow you saw in each other that grew warmer and brighter each passing day. Making you feel for the first time that you deserved love from someone. Especially from yourself.

As you walk into the backyard BBQ at Robby’s house, everyone at the party greets you with a warm, “Hey! You made it!”. They’re right—you did! It’s corny when you think about it to yourself, but there are layers to everything you’ve faced to get to this point. It all added up to who you are now and what Robby sees in you. It’d taken you a while to overcome it all. 💜
