i think whats really interesting about this is the question of morality and how you can define it bcs its the only thing that could determine a right or bad answer. the question asked "how can we achieve peace?" jiraya couldn't find an answer, and here naruto admits he doesnt have an answer either. Nagato has an answer that's not entirely wrong so it becomes his justification. just like naruto he's also seeking the truth, asking naruto if he has a better alternative and i really believe had someone convinced him of a better answer then he would've made different decisions. but imo the difference between pain and eren's characters is that eren only cared about his loved ones till the end and pretended to be a villain to keep them safe and give them a chance for happiness. in pain's case it's different because he believes he's creating peace for the world and he didn't hide his intentions from those close to him. sure he got a little god complex but i think he spoke like that bcs he believed he reached an answer that a human wouldnt accept so he abandoned his humanity & emotions for the sake of his mission
