⁤She didn't enter into this marriage agreement for love. ⁤⁤This marriage was mere pact to secure peace between kingdoms. ⁤⁤It was not an uncommon practice among royals at the time, but Guinevere had always dreamed of passion, not bitter duty. ⁤⁤The thought of it filled her with rebellion and resentment. ⁤
⁤On the eve of her arrival to Cameot, she stole away from her travel escort, slipping into the woods. ⁤⁤Perhaps in the wilds, she would find a dashing knight happy to rescue her from this fate. ⁤⁤Whisk her away into a life of adventure and passion. ⁤
⁤Then, in the woods, she stumbled upon him, a golden-haired young man standing alone among the trees. ⁤⁤He seemed as though he, too, had fled the weight of the world. ⁤⁤Her breath caught. Was this her knight, her salvation? ⁤
⁤But what a twist of fate! ⁤⁤After spending time with him, conversing, and feeling such hope, it turns out that he was, in truth, the very man she sought to flee from. ⁤⁤Her betrothed, Arthur Pendragon, king of Camelot.
As he introduced his true identity, he took her hand, brushing a gentle kiss across her knuckles. ⁤⁤Their eyes met, and in that instant, something shifted in her. ⁤⁤She had been prepared to loathe him, seeing him as a symbol of her cage. ⁤⁤And yet she found herself strangely charmed. ⁤⁤There was something in him that she hadn't anticipated: a quiet charm and vulnerability beneath the crown. ⁤⁤Perhaps life as the future Queen of Camelot wouldn't be so bleak after all.

Hello hello my loves! If you have watched the latest Character Interactions Tutorial, you already have seen the lineart for these two! I was super excited to draw Arthur and Gueinevere again as an example for that tutorial.

Anyhoo, here is a little snippet a summary of their first meeting. I think there are probably many versions of how they first meet. I have actually heard of one version in the mythology where Arthur is visiting a neighboring kingdom for something and he just happens to see her playing a harp in the castle and falls head over heels for her. Merlin councils him not to pursue her, but Arthur is too smitten.

But I find the versions where she becomes queen as a way to broker peace to make a lot of sense and I think it also is a good set up for the rest of the story. I also am a huge fan of the musical Camelot, and at the beginning of the play a scene like this happens, where she tries to run away and happens to run into Arthur, who is also out fretting about his upcoming marriage. I think it is such a cute and funny first meeting!

Anyhoo, you can tell that these legends are a bit of special interest of mine with how much I have to say on them, but I hope you enjoy this piece anyway! Haha!
