I find myself coming back to color combos of desaturated tones paired with red over and over again. I wouldn't even say that red is my favorite color, but when it comes to artwork, it is such a powerful color that makes a bold statement.
I didn't have a color scheme in mind when I started this piece. I initially started filling in the colors with a black background and thought I might put brighter shapes behind her, but then I thought that her face and head stood out so well against the black color that I wanted to keep that contrast.
Then it hit me! Why not make the shapes in the background black and change the color of the background?
The red sky and background give a feeling of turmoil, a perfect setting for a knight defending against an unknown force.
