✨New Art//Lucia Night

As a Symbol of light, Lucia and her feast day blended naturally with solstice traditions such as fires to scare away spirits during the longest, darkest night of the year.

Hello lovelies! (Make sure to click on the image to see its full resolution. The preview on patreon looks particularly blurry with this one for some reason!)
I was listening to a podcast talking all about Lucia day and the traditions in Sweden surrounding the holiday and they mentioned something very fascinating! Long ago, it was believed that winter solstice, the longest night of the year, meant that evil spirits, (and probably the wild hunt), would be out and about causing mischief! So you needed to stay inside and light fire and candles. This traditional belief eventually blended with Lucia Day!

With that inspiration, I thought it would be fun to make a cozy looking Lucia themed piece that includes the candles, the tomte (the swedish gnome on her shoulder), but if you look closely enough, lurking outside is the silhouette of some sort of spirit. (did you see it before reading this? ;))

This piece was all done on the iPad in procreate and is going to be the demo piece for our upcoming tutorial! Now that I have the piece done and the process all recorded, I am working on writing it up, recording the voiceover, and will get to editing soon! I am HOPING to get the tutorial done and posted for you by Monday!

Until then, please enjoy holiday themed piece with a spooky little twist!

Rewards for this piece (attached to the bottom of this post):

I absolutely love her. And the touch of the spirit outside! Growing up we always had a goregous St Lucia ceramic statue my mom hand painted for our Yule and Christmas decorations. This reminds me of that and home while im so far, thank you. I've always found her depictions to be so ethereal in essence. I love you included the gnome. This and the folklore! This piece is beautiful

She's adorable! So tiny, or so it seems, and that outside spirit has great "nope" vibes! Nicely done!

Thank you so much! I do too!

Beautiful! I love we see what seems like a bad spirit outside. I love traditional art inspired by countries legends. 😊❤
