2023-05-24 13:09:56 +0000 UTCThe thing about "It's all just Cid's dream" is that I don't think it's true. There's too much interesting stuff going on that is just completely out of Cid's wheelhouse and interest. To Cid, everything is a fun romp with interesting things happening that can prompt him to complete his Eminence in Shadow bucket list... but to everyone else this whole Diablos Cult story is dead serious and very involved. On the other hand, the weird NPC names of challengers in the Trial (and others, later) are obvious puns that have no reason to be real names. It's hard to tell when a show refuses to take itself seriously, whether the (well-written and interesting) world is supposed to be taken seriously as well.
