Iris (and Asshat, and Beatrix) could see the consequences of Cid's initial movements, to their inevitable conclusion with Iris dead or injured. Recall the 2nd episode when Cid was training with his sister and we had that different-coloured sequence where he attacked her neck but pulled back at the last second? I think that was this kind of "combat sense" too, his sister is supposed to be a prodigy Dark Knight after all. I also like to think that Rose recognised Beta under her hood, and that that informs her decision here, and in the next episode.
