Yeah, Cid really lugged a grand piano (and like 50 pigeons' worth of feathers?) down all those stairs just for that one scene. As for the posession that Rose suffered from, it's explained in chapter 1 of the source material (which I just read): Possession is passed from the heroes through female descendants, but weakens with generations. That's why the "original" 7 Shadows are 5 elves and 2 beastkin - elves live longest, so the curse has weakened least in them. Beastkin live second longest, so the curse still lingers. The following is supposition from me: The possessed humans we have seen seem to have been Cid's sister (which he cured at a young age), Rose, and potentially Alexia (she was captured for her blood). These are all nobles and royalty, traditionally inbred classses.
