I agree that games are what storytellers wish they could do with their stories. Specifically, I view videogames as modern operas, but this could apply to any other medium that wants to immerse their audience. Honestly, it's probably why Soma had such a huge impact on me, because I felt like I had lived through that journey and experienced the struggle myself, cause I did.

I agree that the person following the Tachikoma is the Major, or a body piloted by the Major at least. And that she has security alerts set up for when stuff happens in their base.
For me, the feeling of being completely transported, or "immersed", in another world has almost never happened with movies. It's more common in games. I think the interactive element is what seals it, as I've had it several times just sitting around a table playing some tabletop roleplaying game; the most interactive form of storytelling there is.
