That need to prove herself definitely makes a lot of sense. As for the cyberization, I do remember Batou mentioning that. Didn't consider that it doesn't need to be an enforced thing, but the fact that it's a privilege would be enough to widen the divide. It then seems only natural to be enraged at the system.

Her grandfather made her mother into a showpiece, in a way which everyone around her has derided as the worst possible sin her entire life. She would have more fervour than anyone, with that kind of a background. We also see a lot of haves and have-nots throughout this show. As Batou remarked in an early episode - only the rich or otherwise privileged get cyberization. They get to live in immortal shells that never age or develop diseases (if they do start malfunctioning, you just repair or replace them). The current divide between rich and poor is bad enough, and we already have people taking up arms against the status quo, if only in small ways.
