This show uses alot of apple computers in it, cause thats is what the staff used while creating the show "To Be Continued", with a colored "Be" is shown at the end of most of the episodes. This is a reference to BeOS, whose logo has similar coloring. The child's Navi that Lain used to use was modeled after the 20th Anniversary Macintosh.

2023-07-12 17:04:17 +0000 UTCits producer Yasuyuki, Ueda explained he created Lain with a set of values he took as distinctly Japanese; he hoped Americans would not understand the series as the Japanese would. This would lead to a "war of ideas" over the meaning of the anime, hopefully culminating in new communication between the two cultures. Later, when he discovered that the American audience held the same views on the series as the Japanese, he was disappointed.
