That would definitely test her quite a bit. If such a thing were to happen, she'd rather die either by the hands of the empire or Bob's hands.

Despite the fact that she thinks she needs to atone for her sins, she NEVER wants to face the empire ever again. That's why she's living in a secluded convent deep in the forest. She tries to find solace by worshipping God. She still suffers constantly from mental scars, phantom limb pain (from her tail), and the general discomfort of having her ears and horns cut off as well as the rampant scars throughout her whole body. This, she considers as also a part of her punishment, so she doesn't want this healed by Bob. As for the brainwashing... yeah, if they were to ever find Mary again, it would be a lot easier to control her if ever they catch her.

So far my best guess is that she's supposed to take in any demon she finds and raise them to be loyal to their side. Could be wrong though, I just know that all this brainwashing feels like it's supposed to be for something
