Get Home Safe

I've been working on this for like a month and it's finally finished! I got so sick of drawing this blonde binch. The backgrounds were made by Deb Lee (instagram.com/jdebbiel) and I love them so much!!! Hope you like it! And when I start posting it on Instagram don't spoil anything!!! :)

Kinda feels like a Silent Hill 2 female version with less gore. I love it.

CardForgerGuild

Ok I finished it😁 so only one thing bothers me still why no driver?

Orsolya Sántha

Still couldn't find the courage to read the end 😂

Orsolya Sántha

Beautiful with the eerie background

Orsolya Sántha

💯 agree. So well done.

Dianna Lora

Love that my ferrets decided to scrabble at the door on a very appropriate panel..... no sleep again. Maybe ever.

The combination of the two styles is beautiful

Tom

So eerie. Love the setting and tone.

I love how this really isn't horror. At least in the sense that the central focus, to me, doesn't seem to be creating a perfect horror story with those usual aims. It's an incredibly powerful allegory of the grief process, and grief happens to be horrific. My interpretation was that the subdivision represents the grieving period and the decisions you face then, especially how it says on the brochure it's transitional housing, that's often such a transitional time. And during that time, people might face two options. One is to run from it all to avoid the pain, which I think most mental health professionals would agree never works and ultimately allows the distorted memory of your loved one (which isn't really them, as they'd want you to heal, hence what the not-you figure in the comic represents) to subtly control your life and prevent you from truly living yours. That to me would be letting the figure in, as not truly living is a kind of death, one that might just 'take a second'." Maybe that's where the other neighbors went. The other option/path could be to choose to sit in it, with those memories, so you can process the loss and heal and learn to live again. That would be going back to the real home they shared in the comic, to face the pain and work it out instead of forever running and glancing behind you at the unprocessed grief. Seems the texter in the comic just facilitates that process.

Yessss!! My faves so far!! So creepy

ok but who is driving the car at the end? Why did she buckle herself into the passenger seat and what is the cat looking at from its cat carrier in the second to last page?

Marchmain

Get home safe too, you skin taker.

That was creepy! Good job

Hmlc13

Wow, that was incredible!! I loved the eerieness of it all and would love to see this fully adapted! But also, it’s so perfect as it is! Such a good tale!❤️❤️

Nice story!!

Jarrad George

Absolutely fantastic my dude.

Damn, for a second I thought they'd lose the cat forever...

These short horror stories are fantastic, I love the art

that is crraazzzy!

Jin N Tonic

I have a recurring dream where something is wearing my dad's skin, and it doesn't fit well. My dad died 20 years ago.

Have you thought about posting on Webtoons or another site? The horror genre is pretty popular right now :D

Sadhaka

I wonder if the binch get home safe.

So cool I love it!

I got chills reading this!!!

Dani Cav

Waaahhh it ended way too fast. Loved it though.

Kisha Aleena Abuda

I loved it!!! I want more!!

I love the vibes omgg so good

This is amazing

Sarah Ploof

Great. A story that raises more questions than it answers. A refreshing change from the current need to explain every last detail of a character‘s life. I relished the journey you took us on.

charlotte profiterole

This was so good omgg

Casey

It's really cool to see how much your art has developed over time, especially with panels that have a lot of emotion and movement. Also, I personally love horror, so I'm very happy to see more spooky stories! :D

SmokeAndAsh

Im here to support but a little disappointed in the end. I felt like it was going to build up to more

Same....

It's a metaphor. The house in the isolated desert neighborhood represents the lonely mental landscape of the grieving mind. You might have a few neighbors - others who also grieve - but you'll notice everyone keeps to themselves, much like everyone must ultimately navigate the process in their own way. The wife creature represents our protagonist's desire to be reunited with her lost love. The creature's wrongness indicates that, ultimately, fulfilling this desire is impossible...or at the very least the outcome won't be what the protagonist hopes for. Allowing entry to the creature means being consumed by grief: giving into depression, or worse. By denying entry, the protagonist comes to terms with her wife's death. She doesn't defeat her grief, and the neighborhood will always be there. But she is able to carry on with life :)

I love your art style combined with horror. Another fantastic piece.

Really liked the beginning and subscribed to Patreon only to see the end. But have to admit was a bit disappointed by the end

Absolutely loved this comic, really makes me wonder what would happen if she let her in.

It seems kinda like a silent hill type deal. The grief of her wife personified, or a monster taking advantage of the fact she so desperately missed her wife that it used it as a way to get her. For what purpose? We don't know but I imagine it wasn't great

Luna Yoku

I… I didn’t get it.. I need answers… why the skin didn’t fit? What would have happen if she let her in?

Oh my gosh subscribing to your patreon was so worth it. 10/10

Merl

so she's single 😏

"Find what you lost" does anyone else wonder if the narrator had let the wife in, they would have found what they lost? Like the wife would come back to life? 🤯

so eager to let her out so they can let the next one in

Your drawing is beautiful, she is beautiful. The background art is too.

This reminds me of Pet Sematary by Stephen King

Beautiful

You’re such a great story teller! 🤯🤯🤯

I definitely had to renew my account just for this.

She wanted to discuss our lord and savior Jesus Christ ;)

Tossumout

Message loud and clear. This feels like the way I struggled accepting my little brother’s sudden death. Nice writing!

Chowder

It seems I always dream of my dead coming back but not quite right, not quite themselves. Multiple friends and family, multiple dreams.

Oh this made my heart heavy. I feel so sad and sorry for you, it must have been the worst feeling ever. I hope you're doing better again. How long is your husband gone?

Tasha

I feel this whole story in my heart. After my husband died, I dreamed that he came back, but not him, not the him I fell in love with. Like the character, I did not want to stay in the house and rushed to move to another place, where there was no one I knew and I felt so lonely. Moving on can be a slow and painful process. <3

What would “only take a second” ?!

Anyone else notice in the note that the writer almost wrote “This neighborhood is scary” and “The desert is dangerous”, but crossed both of the adjectives out and uses other words instead??

Rave

Let's talk about Gouda the Cat! 😍

But why?! What was it? I have so many questions

This was great!!

The narrator is a dead ringer for my current girlfriend. Fortunately we’re not married and I’m not dead. Glad Gouda made it out alive too, apparently?!

This was way too short, I need more of this. I need to know why.

So good!! But how did they call for a car with no phone service ..... a car with no visible driver

Guessed that the stranger was the wife from the second part of the comic on insta. Gonna go delete it now. Great story was very atmospheric. I believe the narrator will feel compelled to go back and try letting the wife/not wife into the home, but won't have the courage (but all the sense sense) to ever actually do it; yet, the question of what would happen if they did will linger with them even until their deathbed.

Arshbir Thind

Same here! 😁

Love this one.. It's like horrorsadnessfeelsvilletown.

Erwin Hernandez

The preview of this comic finally made me a patreon ❤️

Mary

So perfect!

Finally joined patreon for this comic and was not disappointed, it was amazin <3

By god this was creepy. The sand textures are tooo good and the character is amazing

Jo Sandor

you got me now! come here because of the instagram-trigger. damn that was a great comic!! <3

This felt like a skin walker situation!! So good!

Veronica Bohrer

This is really good. I feel like the neighborhood isn't really evil, but it can be good or bad depending on each person. Since this person lost their lover, the neighborhood probably had problems bringing back a whole human. But if you had lost, say, your car and house, perhaps the neighborhood would provide you with a nice car and a lovely house and you'd see nothing wrong with the place. I think it only seems evil in this situation because reincarnation specifically is very hard and morally debatable

Rille

Really love this vibe. Thanks. Feels 2007 Something-Awful skinwalker thread: exactly what I wanted.

Reddy

love it!

TimCNA

Wait, was there no driver in the car???

That was *chef's kiss*

Kiki Shawntika

Wow

You're not making it up!

Came from Facebook to read this.

That was my thought with the identical houses.

Damn Adam. That was F-Ed up.

john shaw

I was squinting as I clicked through the slides like that would save me from something scary lmfao

First of all, this was aesthetic af & and also thank you, I guess I didn't need to sleep today

This was so so good! I love the horror comics. I may be making this up, but I feel like Adam made a comic a while ago that had the “can I come home with you” except the person was like him with skin that didn’t quite fit. I feel like I remember he said it was based on a dream he had. Does anyone else remember this or am I making it up haha? I can’t seem to find it on Instagram.

Gouda! <3

Tamara Mendelson

a few of the words are cut off by the arrow buttons, but this is a great story! glad i don’t live alone lol

The get home safe is chilling, when the wife says it I can’t tell if she means it or know there is more spirits out there

Lorena

Adam

The way she addresses her wife directly with "you" rather than "her" gives that little extra spook factor

Stephanie Fritz

So amazing! It deserves a wallpaper!!!

Great comic Adam!! Super eerie and left me wanting more :)

Got goosebumps ! That’s another amazing piece Adam

Rodwolf

I also get a low-key Babadook vibe, so good.

This is amazing!!!

Trisha Bordeaux

Dude, when are you gonna start making movie scripts?

Oystein

I kinda picked up on that too but the person she saw at first looked like they had a beard(?) so I didn't automatically assume it was her wife. Even if it wasn't I think your interpretation is the best one that I gravitate towards as well!

It looked like it was her wife looking through the curtains in the beginning? I interpret the story as if the main character was missing her wife and hadn't moved onwards. The new houses seemed to be a place where the living and dead lived together to see if the living person wanted to go with the dead. The longer the dead person stayed, the more dead they seemed to be. The moment she said no to her dead wife entering the house, she knew she was finished and ready to leave.

get home safe :)

Justin Tucker

I really like this. I joined your Patreon specifically for your horror content, and you are DELIVERING.

Kit Foreman

The detail in the hands of the dead wife's skin was amazing! The multiple fingers trying to fit in to one finger of a glove. Great attention to detail!

John

I also don't really get it... Was the house in limbo? Where they could choose to go into death with their partner (the rat seemed half alive half dead) or go back to living? I'm not sure.

You know the character is female yes?

wow so good, I love it. also really glad gouda is safe!

syd

I feel silly but I don’t get the last page. Can someone explain it to me?

JD

Your superpowers are drawing sexy himbos and scary AF comics

Tarvor Lundy

I’m glad nothing happened to the cat. 💜

Maggie Smith

oooooooh this was epic

KandyCube

Your skin didn’t fit oooohhh that have me chills lol.

Dealing with the death of your life partner is confusing, and unbelievably lonely. Yes, this is horror but Adam you tell your stories so beautifully. Thanks for this one. It has been 35 years for me but this hit home - and in a good way.

Marla T

I absolutely love everything about this comic and reminds me of why I supported you on Patreon❤ The character designs are amazing, the backgrounds are flawless, and the story creepy af just the way I like them😂

Meggie

This one really creeped me out. Very nice

Jake Thomas Taylor

A beautify rendition of the dream you made a comics of! All the spooks and chills of the other but in a setting and storey that amplifies it! Make me wonder as a view if it's a remake... or a sequel 🤔 great work as always

Chilling and delightfully ambiguous.
