I love cult documentaries, I love to see the psychology behind how people can pathologically manipulate people and how people can fall for and get sucked into them! You’re completely right, marxism is what most people think of when they think of communism, and it’s such a twisted version of communism that it’s just not a good representation, hence why it’s got its own name! I think the greatest issue lies in the one of true main difference between communism and socialism, the eradication of private property. In my opinion, at least in its practises, communism is ruled by this idea of “sameness”, which for human beings, is fundamentally impossible as we all have inner thoughts and everyone is different. That’s where it fails, because you cant make everyone the same! Love your profile pic btw! 💙💙

But what I meant to say is that I don’t think it’s fair to label communism alone as a plague, by your criteria that it’s killed so many people. It’s definitely true, but by that logic you could say the same for democracy or any other political ideology. If we want to take it further, by your logic, if killing people makes something a plague, religion is the worst plague of all. A countless number of people have been killed in the name of Christianity, far more than in the name of communism. The same can be said for any other religion, especially Abrahamic ones. What I mean to say by this, is to point out the irony of your comment. It’s not communism or Christianity that kill people. Most religions and ideologies aren’t bad at their core and definition. It’s when they’re practised and propagated by corrupt people who use them to fulfil their agendas, profit or control people, that people get hurt or killed. I don’t personally believe in Christianity anymore or agree with communism (I would probably consider myself to align more with socialism), but I don’t think it’s fair to paint any political ideology or religion by the people who exploit, misinterpret and misuse them. 😊

2024-10-01 13:03:45 +0000 UTCCommunism had a good aim, unfortunately the leadership used it to steal ownership from the citizens and place it in government hands. North Korea and Cuba are good examples of the worst of it. Russia and China do alittle better if you are in the cities. But it takes power from the people. Capitalism isn’t perfect but at least you have a shot. And listen to people who moved from communist countries to America . Don’t listen to people who’ve never experienced this. They’ve read books that say what they want to hear and how it was supposed to work out. But what the people wanted didn’t play out, dictators won.

2024-10-01 04:49:03 +0000 UTCCommunism at its core is not a bad system. One of the big flaws with it is that it has tended to lead to authoritarian and fascist leadership. In the time this was set, there had just been a Communist revolution in Russia and it is likely they were viewed as potential traitors (which they technically were, as they advocated for a new form of government).
