* First Episode with Proper On-Screen Deaths as both Ed Peletier & Amy Harrison along with 13 Unnamed Camp Survivors I’ll die in this Episode * The title of the episode, "Vatos", refers to the fact that the opposing group that tried to take Rick's bag of guns called themselves, Vatos * Oddly enough, in the previous episode, S1EP3 Tell It to the Frogs, Morales described Rick as a "Crazy Vato" * This is the only episode of Season 1 written by Robert Kirkman * Greg Nicotero portrayed the Walker that kills Amy * Emma Bell (Amy) stated that Nicotero placed a skin-colored prosthetic around her neck, which consisted of a layer of red viscous liquid and a hose. Once it was bitten into, the prosthetic exploded and resembled a severe flesh wound. * An Atlanta Camp Survivor extra, Orlando Vargas was originally supposed to be credited and had a longer scene for his death when the walkers attacked the camp. Ultimately, the scene was deleted and Orlando remained uncredited. * Robert Kirkman shared on of his favorite moments with Steven Yeun (Glenn) during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Steven had to run back and forth to grab Rick's hat and the bag of guns. He hadn't eaten anything that day and blacked out. * This episode takes place at the same time as FTWD S3EP13 This Land Is Your Land * According to the Cutting Room Floor for Issue 65, Daryl was originally going to die in this episode | * Once Shane tackles Jim, pinning him down after he is digging holes, Jim expresses what had happened to his wife and sons. In this shot, we see him pinned down to the ground, his hat knocked off. But in the next shot, Jim's hat is back on his head. * In several close-up scenes of Daryl with the crossbow, you can clearly see that it's not loaded correctly. The nock of the bolt (arrow) is resting well above the bow string and no way would it fire properly. * When Abuela appears during the Stand-Off, Rick lowers his rifle towards the ground, away from Guillermo. In the next shot, there is a jump-cut, as the rifle is suddenly back up, pointed at Guillermo again. We then see Rick lowering the rifle a second time from a different angle.

2025-08-13 07:05:18 +0000 UTCFun fact: the reason season 1 only has 6 episodes is because usually a new pilot series only gets 6-8 episodes, the network and creators weren’t sure if the series would be a hit. Plus the production is pretty top notch & expensive. But when it ended up being a huge hit they added more episodes.

2025-01-21 20:16:51 +0000 UTCI don't feel like it was the fact that he asked T-dog for a durag that was offensive because it was T-dog, I think it was offensive because he asked for a durag specifically, he could have asked him or anyone else for a handkerchief or a bandana or a rag or a shirt, but he asked him for a durag and that's the racial bias or intent cuz if he asked the whole group ( group full of white people) "does anyone have a durag?" it would be both silly and more pointed racism toward T-dog than just asking him directly for one because obviously none of the white people have a durag. lol that's just my assumption and thought process on it. He was interacting with and mad at T-dog so he was the right person to ask, and even though his assumption was right, he could have called it a bandana or something lolol
