Especially if the issue ended up brought before the Earl who would use that as a reason to get back at Ragnar since he doesn't like him. (My viewpoint based on this episode only because I forgot nearly everything that happened in this show).

Viking were farmers who branched out to Scotland, England and further south than that. They were raiders and took slaves. However they were also farmers and fishermen. Great warriors who forged the history of the North and south. This is based on historical figures who created the countries that existed as seperate entities. Amazing history.
