I like that you're starting to pick up on how complicated the relationship between Walt and Jesse is. Walt definitely cares about Jesse in a weird way. At the same time, Walt is definitely manipulating and using Jesse. Perhaps Walt doesn't want the guilt if something happened to Jesse. Why Walt seems to care sometimes is anyone's guess, though.

I usually feel bad for Jesse because of the way Walter treats him; constantly putting him down, belittling him, and calling him a junkie imbecile. Walter treats him like trash, and for the most part, Jesse doesn’t deserve it. But in this episode... it’s hard to defend him. He really is a junkie imbecile here. And Jane? She’s just unbearable. She takes such a sharp turn in this episode from supportive to manipulative and it becomes really hard to like her. She’s cold, selfish, and reckless, and she drags Jesse down even further. As wrong as it is to say, and yes, what Walter did was undeniably awful part of me feels like this was the wake-up call Jesse needed. It’s tragic, but also maybe the only thing that could snap him out of it.

Fun fact: in prior episodes when Walt is teaching this season you can see a painting on the wall in the classroom of what looks like Jane facing death. You can also look at the death of Jane in two different ways . 1 way is that Walter did help Jesse and actually saved his life because with $500,000 the first thing they did was buy drugs that inevitably would’ve killed them based on the fact that Jane could’ve turned over herself and end her own life without Walter even shaking Jesse. Also, the fact that Jane was taking Jesse away from him so Walter chose him and Jesse over Jane and Jesse for Jesse. The other way is that since Walter was there he should’ve saved her and emphasized that point to Jesse pointing out that he saved her life and if he wasn’t there that she could’ve died just for something as little as rolling onto her back. Also, pointing out that Jesse did exactly what Walt said he would do when he got the money which is get drugs. The first way is more aligned to his thinking because Walter just got done talking to Jane’s father about how Jesse is basically family and Jane’s dad told Walter “never give up on family.”
