Portrait Drawing Course Term 1, Lesson 4: Constellations

This video is Lesson 4 of the 'Learning to see' term - in this lesson I'll show you  how points and relational lines can be used to improve the proportion of your drawings. We'll explore those points in a continuous line drawing and look at the measured paintings of Euan Uglow. As always, to get full benefit from the course, watch one video per month, practicing for at least 2 hours per week over the course of that month, before moving on to the next lesson.

thank you for the course! in addition to giving very good instruction on drawing ourselves, I really enjoy the new angles I now have to look at art ...

So far this course is amazing! The idea of the face as a constellation is very helpful and poetic : )

Thanks so much Amanda! they are a joy to make, although they've been taking longer than initially planned! I'm so glad you're finding them helpful. :)

Jake, these lessons are amazing. I could listen to you explaining art all day. You explain everything so clearly and in such a non-patronising way. Thank you. 🙏🏻

Amanda

Thank you so much Nicky! I'm so glad that it's proving useful. I always think it's so necessary as we get so focused on seeing the model as a shape and an image that we keep their person-hood in mind at the same time. I'm relay glad it resonated withy you :) Jake

I am learning so much from this course. Thank you for making it comprehensive and building the skills up from a foundation level. The sensitivity you are adding to it is also an important reminder that we are drawing people not objects, something that many teachers (and students) perhaps forget in their striving for accuracy and is one of the things that makes your teaching so impactful.
