We have our tutored Experimental Life Drawing session running next Sunday 3rd November if you’d like to join us! In this monthly session Emma Prothero will be introducing a new material with a series of exercises that you can practice with her live over Zoom. We’ll be drawing together from reference images from the Draw Patreon photosets, which will be shared on the screen alongside Emma’s live demonstration. If you join live you can share in the conversation and ask Emma questions as we go – we’ll also record the session for anybody who wants to catch up later. The session runs from 3-5pm UK time on Zoom but if you are elsewhere in the world we’d love to have you at our sessions! As always, you can check your local time zone using the converter HERE - pop me an email on info@draw-brighton.co.uk if you need any extra help.
Our theme this week: Watersoluble Graphite
In this session, we'll explore the exciting and often overlooked medium of water-soluble graphite. Guided by Emma Prothero, you'll experiment with various techniques through drawing, painting and ‘pushing’ to create dynamic life drawings - and in turn, learn more about water-soluble graphite and its possibilities. With a focus on capturing the movement and energy of our life models, you’ll explore a range of mark-making techniques and experimental processes. We'll transition from fast-paced poses to more sustained ones toward the end, allowing you to apply what you've learned. This friendly, energetic and informative session will equip you with a fresh approach to bring to your next life drawing class!
Materials you’ll need for this session:
We recommend the following materials - if you don’t have the right materials, you’re welcome to join anyway and try the exercises with materials you do have to hand.
Plenty of white or cream watercolour paper of your preferred size
Water-soluble graphite pencils (bring a range if you have them! Most water soluble pencils have a brush, or water droplet symbol on the side)
Any other water-soluble graphite mediums you may have, such as graphite powder, sticks, blocks, or putty
Paintbrushes of various sizes and types (please bring at-least one synthetic brush)
One or more of the following: loo roll, paper towels, cotton balls, buds or pads and/or a sponge
A palette or pots to hold water
The following materials are optional, but bring them with you if you have them!
A spray bottle
A sharpening block, fine-grain sandpaper, or a nail file
A craft knife
A palette or pot to hold dry medium
