EDIT 2: ALMOST FRIGGIN' DONE
EDIT: Update on the progress!
Another Kingdom Come 2 piece, this one might take me a little while π©
My hopeless attempt at providing context for the people who haven't played the game (literally as briefly as I possibly could manage to make it, naturally it contains spoilers):
KCD2 takes place during the turn of 15th century Bohemia. Our protagonist, Henry, is a peasant who's lost all of his friends and family to a village raid, and since elevated himself to the role of page to the to-be Lord of Pirkstein - Hans Capon. The two have a friendship that builds over the course of two games, and, depending on your actions, that friendship develops into something more - taking into account all of the weight such a decision would have during the era. Even so, the characters get to seize the moments that they have together at least for now.
The character at the bottom is Erik. Erik is a peasant-turned-soldier who lost everything to a village raid and has since then become a simple cog of war, as well as the lover of one of the story's main villains: a hungarian Lord who Henry eventually murders, leaving Erik to grieve what was, perhaps, the only truthful relationship he could ever have at a time where men like him had little option besides ostracization or secrecy.
The parallels probably don't have to be spelled out any further, and the way that this game has made me reflect on the solitude that someone like Erik would be facing can't be put into words - the implication that Henry has set himself up for the exact same fate in the search of revenge is as juicy as it is heart-breaking.
This post spells my feelings about it a little further too.
