Filling out Sammy's pockets and personality.
Added 2022-07-24 20:19:05 +0000 UTCQuite a lot of new features added this week and I hope I can get though most of them. The biggest one being that Sammy now has a fully functional inventory. Haven has been a good testing ground for all of this stuff.

Brew, smokes, contraception, quest items and a few other bits are all added and functional.
Thanks to a comment on discord asking if we can give girls like Dani contraceptives, I decided to also add an inventory for NPCs as well. So you can now give over items to people and the game will see them. This comes in handy with the gate guard who needs a lighter. If you agree to give him one, it will be removed from your inventory and added to his. For the end user there probably isn't any difference, but for me it makes it very easy to give characters stuff and have them know they have it, and make use of it.
With the inventory being added, I needed a way to tell the player items had been added or used. I did have the notification system used for quests, but it had some issues of overlapping when multiple things happened at the same time. So I added a new notification system that looks more in line with the Fixer art style. You are now notified of items in or out of Sammy's inventory, quest update, stat checks and anything else the game needs to communicate to the player.

Onto another topic, a common bit of feedback I get is that it feels weird that Sammy on her first day in the new body can end up triggering horny events and generally goes along with sexual advances. This felt out of place for many players and I agree. So some changes to desire have been made.
First of all, there is a new stat called body confidence. It is a hidden stat that only impacts the early game and will rise or fall depending on your choices during the prologue. Pick a male start and react negatively to Emile while she tries to help you will start you out with extremely low body confidence. Pick a female start and go along happily with things on the other hand and you will start out with max body confidence.
Secondly, changes have been made to the desire stat. Sammy's maximum possible desire is now based on her sex experience as well as body confidence. Depending on your choices during the prologue, it is possible for Sammy to start the game not being able to gain any desire. On the other hand, a confident, slutty/broken Sammy will end up with a cap so high she might end up struggling to ever manage it.
This will play a huge role in deciding if desire related random events should trigger. A pure Sammy will be in full control of her impulses while a slutty Sammy might regularly find herself succumbing to her desires and dragging men off into alleyways.

And contraceptives have finally been added. This has been on my to-do list since before the game ever saw a public release, and now we finally have them.

Here we have a pregnancy test, morning after pill and an abortion pill. I am still on the fence as to if I want to add any preventative contraception like the pill simply because I feel reactionary contraceptives allow for more fun events to trigger.
Sammy desperately trying to hunt down a seller of morning after pills in the market after getting a bit carried away seems more fun than just taking a pill prior and forgetting about it. We will see.

This is a Small change, but one probably worth mentioning, and is another suggestion from discord. Sammy no longer starts the game looking the same. Previously I gave her a fixed appearance to save time on the early game artwork. But now all of the scenes factor in the customisation options, that isn't necessary anymore. So now most of Sammy's features are randomised to add a bit of variety to the early game.

There has also been a lot of updates to Haven that I haven't talked about, but I think I will save that for another post.
And finally (this post is way bigger than I planned) onto the Patreon release. I am aiming for Thursday or Friday to put a release out. There is a good chance though that I wont get round to doing the pub stuff or dance quest for this release because they are quite content heavy and I have plans to do proper work on them a little later. So I may block those paths off until I work on them proper. As always I will try to keep you all up to date.

Cool. One thing I didn't like during the Haven mission is having to remember Sammy's "inventory" over multiple play sessions, and in some cases it had been over a week since I played last. Also to mention all of the ciggs that went into phantom obscurity that she still posessed after mission completion.
