The Perfect Match I
My name is Curtis Shaw, I’m a twenty-nine-year-old man. I’m also single and quite lonely. I spend most of my time at work, where I’m a basic sales representative for an insurance company. The rest of my time is usually spent sleeping.
I know, I know. I’m still pretty young. I should be out having fun, maybe trying to go on dates, but honestly, it was too much hassle for the little results I got, plus working ten-plus hours every day was quite taxing as it was.
So I basically accepted that I wasn’t going to end up in a relationship, get married, or ever have children. My parents, or more like my mother, weren't so accepting of that and hated the idea of never having grandchildren.
So she began trying to motivate me to find a partner and start a family, but her motivation was actually just pressure. She seems to think it’s motivating to call me lazy or useless like it’ll magically make me find a girlfriend.
She doesn’t get that I want a partner more than she wants me to have one, and I did try really hard to make that happen, but I had no luck. I downloaded every dating app on the market and chatted with more girls than anyone could imagine.
Turns out most of those apps are filled with bots. So I wasn’t even speaking to anyone half the time, and the bots only wanted me to click on suspicious links, likely so they could try and scam me, but I’m not an idiot, so I didn’t click them.
Then there were the catfishers. While they were real people on the other side, they were likely men trying to get desperate guys like myself to send them money. Then what remained were real women, but those themselves were a mixed bunch.
Some are only looking for handsome buff guys who are six feet or taller. I may not be outright ugly, but I am pretty nerdy. I have short curly hair, I wear glasses, I’m pretty skinny with no muscles, and I’m only five foot eight.
Because of that most women don’t even click on my profile, never mind try to match with me. Those that do always seem pretty cool, but for some reason they end up ghosting me, or saying I’m not what they’re looking for after a first date.
I do try to ask what about me is putting them off, that way I can work on it and try to change, as clearly there was something about me that was wrong and made women not want me, but they all say the same thing, that I’m sort of stale.
I get that, I am very boring. I’m basically a middle-aged man already. I sit around doing nothing when I’m not working, I don’t have anything that would be considered a hobby, heck I don’t even think there is much that interests me.
Who would want to be with someone like that? Especially when they work all day and sleep all night. It didn’t sound like much of a life. I do wish I could fix that, but it’s not exactly easy to do, since I need to keep my job, which is what leads to me being tired all the time.
As for hobbies, I have no idea how to go about that. I’ve tried many things guys should like, like watching sports, playing games, and building things but nothing clicked, and I found myself just wanting to go to bed.
So I gave up trying. My life may not be perfect, and some may see it as sad, but it was mine and all I had, so I was going to live it, even if it meant being alone forever. My mother wasn’t very happy to hear that, or perhaps she didn’t hear that and instead heard that she needed to help me.
She randomly called me one day while I was sleeping in since I had the day off. I didn’t answer at first, so she called me again, then again, and finally, she used the video chat feature on my T-Pad which I keep next to my bed in order to do some late-night work.
I had it set to automatically answer her since she’s my mother and she could be calling because of an emergency, but never seems to be the reason she uses it. She sees me asleep in my tank top and shorts and starts yelling at me.
I sit up quickly and look around. I looked at my T-Pad and frowned. I said good morning to her and asked her what was up. After an assault of words calling me lazy again, she finally got to why she was calling me.
She told me she had been spreading the word of my desire to find a wife around to her friends, hoping to find a lovely girl to get me engaged with. I nearly gagged at the thought of an arranged marriage.
I knew I was far from a catch and the last thing I wanted was to make some nice woman stuck with me because of it. My mother continued and told me that she had found a matchmaker, who knew a lot of people.
My mother told the matchmaker all about me, which would help them find the perfect person for me. I frowned more, the last thing I needed to hear was that the matchmaker failed since there was no perfect person for me, but my mother had happy news.
The matchmaker found someone for me, and they were waiting at the matchmaker's office for me. I was a little surprised by that news, but also super embarrassed. How pathetic am I that I need to rely on my mother and an arranged marriage just to start a family?
My mother then starts yelling at me to get ready and go and to not keep my future partner waiting. With nothing to lose, I agreed to go meet the matchmaker and this perfect partner they had found for me.
I end the call with my mother and go take a shower. Then I made myself look nice and picked out my best clothes before driving to the location my mother had sent to me. When I arrived at the location, I had a bad feeling about all of this.
The matchmaker’s office was actually one of those witchy shops, the ones where they sell fake magic books, love potions, and tons of crystals. I walked through the doors and went right up to the counter where a woman sat at the counter.
She greeted me and I told her who I was. She smiled and said she was glad to see me, she was the matchmaker, which makes sense. She then took my hand and told me my fiance was waiting for me in the back. She then began to pull me towards the back to meet her.
The matchmaker told me that my partner was already ready to get married. She then said she never expected to find someone willing to agree to the woman's requirements. I wanted to ask her what that was, but before I could speak, she mentioned my mother letting her know it was okay.
I had some unsettling feelings about that, so I asked more about what my mother agreed to. The matchmaker shrugged and said for starters, my fiance wanted to be the breadwinner and have me be the stay-at-home parent when the time comes.
I was surprised to hear that, I’d love to be a stay-at-home dad, and not have to work as much as I do. That might even solve a lot of my problems when it comes to being boring. I told the matchmaker that was more than okay with me.
That made her laugh a bit, but I have no idea why. She took me into the back and then down a flight of stairs where I saw a beautiful pink-haired woman in a very nice white dress standing in the middle of the room.
I walked up to her and introduced myself, and she did the same. My future wife was incredibly beautiful and her name was Monica. I honestly couldn't believe how amazing this was, my mother had really come through for me.
After meeting her, the matchmaker pulled us into another room, one that had a very large circle with what looked like runes around it. I had no idea what was going on, but the matchmaker had us stand in the circle.
I was nervous, but Monica held my hand and told me not to worry, our new life together was about to begin. I was now slightly more nervous, were we getting married right now? The matcher maker came out with a strange book and began to read from it.
Monica then said I was going to love being a woman, and that she would spend every day treating me like a queen. I suddenly turned to look at her and ask what she was talking about, but it was too late. The room filled with light and I passed out.
When I woke up I was feeling quite strange and had a slight headache. I sat up and noticed that I was asleep next to me. After not processing it for a minute, I stood up and screamed. The matchmaker came running in asking me why I was screaming.
I pointed at my body and said that was why. Then I realized something. If my body was on the couch, what was I in? I slowly looked down to find I was wearing a lovely white dress, oh, and that I was very clearly a woman now.
I was in Monica’s body, which meant she was likely in mine. I point at the matchmaker and demand to be put back in my body. The matchmaker calmed me down and informed me it was too late to swap back, the spell was permanent.
I slumped down on the couch looking shocked. I asked the matchmaker why she did this to me, which seemed to confuse her. She then told me I had agreed to it, or at least my mother had told them I had.
My eyes twitched. My mother agreed to this! How could she not tell me? Did she forget? Or purposely hold that back because she knew I wouldn’t have come. As I was processing all of this, Monica in my body was finally waking up. This really wasn’t what I would call a perfect match.
The Perfect Match II
Monica in my body woke up and looked at me. He then seemed super happy and jumped into my arms saying he was super glad the spell worked. I didn’t move or say anything, which made him let go and look at me.
He could tell I was upset and asked me what was wrong. I let him know I wasn't too happy being tricked into becoming a woman. Monica looked at the matchmaker and asked her what I was talking about.
The matchmaker explained that my mother seemed to have lied to them about me being okay with this swap. He turned towards me and took my hands. He apologized nearly a hundred times and said if he knew he wouldn't have let it go through.
It wasn’t his goal to trick me and he genuinely thought I was okay with becoming a woman and then becoming his wife. He was really sweet, and I couldn't bring myself to be mad at him. Not that it was his fault anyway, it was my mother's, or is it future mother-in-law's?
Either way, it was her fault. Monica told me that since the swap was permanent, he would do whatever it took to help me adjust, and he was still willing to treat me like a queen. It didn’t seem like I had much of a choice, so I agreed.
So now I’m Monica Whitehill, a twenty-eight-year-old woman who’s engaged to a man named Curtis Shaw. After swapping we agreed to start using each others’ names as weird as it was, it did make sense as I didn’t really look like a Curtis anymore.
Curtis also moved into my house, which I guess is technically his house now, and from there our life together started. He got right into my life and worked each day as a sales representative for the insurance company that I used to work for.
All the while I stayed at home doing nothing but adjusting to my body. I had to get used to so many things, wearing different types of clothes, cleaning my hair, and how different this body was compared to my old one.
Curtis was true to his word and helped me whenever I needed it, and as time started to pass, I started to really enjoy having him around and in my life. As more time passed, I even came to enjoy being Monica, and life was really great.
I ended up making up with my mother for tricking me, and she started to teach me all kinds of things, like how to cook, and the best methods for cleaning and she even helped me plan my wedding. Which happened two years after we had swapped bodies.
I got to walk down the aisle in a beautiful white wedding dress, and I never imagined that I’d enjoy being the center of attention like that, then again, I never imagined being the bride either. The dress is so nice, that even now I still take it out to look at.
The memories fill me with so much joy, and I always feel so cute while wearing it. After the wedding ceremony, we went to Paris for our honeymoon for a week. Much like getting married as the bride, I never imagined traveling to such a nice place, and I’m glad we did.
The sights were amazing! Getting kissed under the Eiffel Tower really is as romantic as they say. The food was also great! They had so many types of cheese, like real cheese not processed garbage, not to mention their selection of wine is top-notch.
Of course, my favorite part of the trip was the shopping. With the help of Curtis, I went to nearly every store and tried on a ton of things, though I only picked out a handful of things since they were super expensive and we just had a big wedding.
After our honeymoon was over, we went back home and went back to our normal lives, this time as a loving husband and wife. Curtis ended up deciding to get a better job, one that paid more, and I was super happy for him when he got a nice upper-management position at another company.
I doubt I would have gotten it, or even tried to get it when I was him, which almost makes me jealous of how much better at my old life he was, but I’m sure he looks at me and thinks the same thing. It’s almost like things were meant to turn out this way.
Having gotten married, and with Curtis having a better job, the next step came up. He wanted to expand our family. I had to admit, I wanted that as well, though I was a little nervous about it since I’d be the one to have to do that and deal with all the symptoms.
After talking it over with my husband, we agreed to do it. So we started trying, and while we waited to hear some good news, we got to work preparing for it. We cleaned out one of the extra bedrooms and began to paint it blue.
We had no idea if that was the right color, but we can always paint it again if we need to. We then started to buy furniture. Things like a crib, changing table, playpens all that. Everything we would need once we have kids.
Four months later, I started to feel a bit strange. After doing a test and getting the confirmation, I told Curtis and both of us were overjoyed. We’d soon be parents! After hugging and kissing, we knew we had to tell people, so we went right to our mother’s house.
As soon as we got through the door, my mother looked at me and smiled. She ran right up to me and hugged me. She then congratulated me. Curtis and I were shocked, she already seemed to know, but how?
She claimed it was a mother's instinct and that I would soon understand. We all laugh and sit down to chat about it, with my mother sticking close to me trying to convince me that several names she picked are great.
It was a little soon to settle on a name, but I told her we’d consider the names she picked, though I doubt we’ll use any of them. My mother then started telling me what kind of clothes I was going to need as I got larger and even sent me links to good sites to get them from.
She then insisted she hold a party to celebrate, and to announce the gender once we know. She was making it sound like it was going to be bigger than my wedding, but she was happy so I agreed to let her pan and throw the party.
The next day while Curtis was at work I decided to take a trip into town. I went back to that witchy shop where I met the matchmaker. She was surprised to see me but excited nonetheless. She, like my mother, took one look at me and congratulated me.
At least in her case, she’s magical so it makes sense that she could tell. I asked her if she was able to perform other types of magic. She nodded and said as a witch there was a wide variety of spells at her disposal.
She asked me what kind of spell I was looking to have cast. I asked her if she was able to cast a spell that let someone see into the future. She nodded and said she did have a spell like that, but it wasn’t always accurate.
Mostly because seeing the future can alter it. She asked me if that was okay. I told her it was, and that I was ready for it. She nodded and brought me down to the basement and began to cast the spell.
One moment I was standing there looking at the matchmaker and the next I was seeing visions of the future. There I saw myself and Curtis in the hospital holding our child. It was so precious, and I could tell we were very happy.
My future self looked at him for a moment and called him Manny. The vision ended and I was nearly in tears. The matchmaker asked me if what I saw was bad, but I shook my head, what I saw was perfect.
We were going to have a boy as our first child, and we named him after my grandfather, a man I truly loved and admired while growing up. I thanked the matchmaker for doing that for me and I then quickly went home to tell Curtis the news.
When I tell him it’s going to be a boy he nearly jumps through the ceiling. He was excited to get to do all the father-son activities. It was quite wholesome how excited he was, and I knew he was going to be a great dad. I’m excited as well, and I hope I can be just as good of a mom.
The Perfect Match III
It’s been ten years since I became Monica Shaw, and it has been a fun crazy ride. I’m now thirty-eight, married to a wonderful man named Curtis Shaw who is currently the CFO of the insurance company that I had once been a basic sales representative at.
We had several children, the first was a boy we named Manny, who looks exactly like me, Julia who looks just like her father, and then lastly Kimberly who has my hair color but has her father's eyes, and is just so precious.
Our family is so full, healthy, and most importantly healthy. I truly couldn't wish for more, and I’m so very thankful that I ended up with such an amazing life. I’m truly grateful for my mother tricking me all those years ago.
Though she’s even more grateful that I’ve given her so many grandkids to spoil. She loves them so much, and while I wouldn't say she was the best mother at times, she is an incredible grandmother and doesn’t call my kids useless or lazy.
Actually now that I think of it, she doesn’t even say those things to me anymore. I guess that could be because I’m far from lazy and useless these days. With three kids and a new job, it’s quite the opposite.
I wake up early each morning and get myself ready for work. I then head into the kitchen and pack the kid's lunches, then I go and wake them all up and have them get dressed while I make breakfast for them all.
Once they eat, I take Manny and Julia outside to the bus stop and get them on the bus. After that, I go back inside, finish getting ready, get Kimberly into the car, and head off to the kindergarten where I work.
I love getting to work as a teacher and I love having Kimberly in my class while I do it. Next year she’ll move up a grade, and while I’ll be super proud I’ll be super sad not to have her around all day, but like her siblings, she has to grow those wings and take off.
I spend the work day helping the kids around, letting them play games and even teaching them basic numbers and letters. Once it hits noon, the kindergarten class lets out and their parents pick them up to bring them home, which is also when I get to go home.
So Kimberly and I head home. Kimberly goes off and starts playing while I start cleaning up a bit, things like sweeping, cleaning dishes and clothes, and the messes the kids left from the previous day when they were playing.
After that the day can vary, sometimes I go for walks with Kimberly, or we go shopping to pick up stuff for the house, and sometimes some candy to share, but don’t Manny or Julia, or now that I’m thinking about it, don’t tell Curtis.
Then I normally start cooking dinner, and have it ready for when everyone is home later that night. I know it’s not too much and sounds like stereotypical women's work, but as a former guy, I think it’s safe to say I’m not a stereotypical woman.
Even if I was, I’d still be happy. Even if this life isn’t for all women, it is for me. I’m a proud mother, a proud wife, and one heck of a cook, not to mention super cute for a forty-year-old. Now like I said, normally I make dinner for us all, but today is special.
Once the kids and Curtis got home, we all went to my mother's house. She had wanted to spend some time with them and today was very special for Curtis and me, so she agreed to take them for the night.
After we dropped them off, we went back home and we got dressed in some of our nicest clothes. I got into a nice floral dress, while Curtis got in his sharpest black suit. Once I left the bathroom he presented me with a bouquet of flowers.
He told me I looked great and he held me in his arms for a minute. A kiss followed that and afterward, we went out to a very nice restaurant. It was so romantic, and quite peaceful to be able to sit there and look into his eyes with a candle lit between us.
As much as I love my kids, three of them rarely give you time for a break. This is probably the first time in years we had a chance to do something like this. I’m glad we took the time tonight to do so, as I mentioned it’s a very special night.
It was exactly ten years since the day the two of us met up at the matchmaker and we swapped bodies. Ten years since I stopped being the lazy, unless, and lonely Curtis Shaw, and started my life as the incredible woman Monica Shaw.
The same went for my husband. Before the swap, he was Monica Shaw, a brilliant woman who had great ideas and a sense of business, but no one would take her seriously enough to give her a real position of power.
All she had wanted was to be a provider for her family, to be the strong foundation that supports them, and she got all that by becoming Curtis Shaw. I’ve said it before, but it almost seems like we were always meant to swap, and I’ll never regret doing so.
We order our meals and chat as we wait for them to arrive. Curtis tells me about how work is going and then he listens as I tell him about all the progress my students are making in class, as well as Kimberly’s progress.
Our meals arrive and we happily eat while listening to the music of the piano playing in the background. The food was so good, though I’m pretty sure I can make it better at home. If only the kids weren't so picky, I could make stuff like this.
After we finish our food we chat for a while longer while we finish our wine. Curtis gets up and pays while I collect my things. We then head outside. I thought we were going to go to the car to go home, but Curtis wanted to go for a walk.
He said there was a nice spot nearby. We end up at a park that overlooks the ocean. We walk through the trees as the moonlight shines down on us, and a few minutes in we make it to a small dock.
We walk out onto it and we find ourselves right next to the water. Curtis takes me over to the ledge and points down. I look and find the water filled with beautiful glowing jellyfish. It was so beautiful that I truly didn’t believe I was seeing it at first.
I asked Curtis how this was even possible, I didn’t even know there were jellyfish here. He says it’s magic and I understand right away what he meant. It was our dear matchmaker, the wonderful witch who made our love possible.
Curtis pulled me in close and held me tightly, and then the two of us watched the jellyfish for some time. Once it got pretty late I suggested we get back, since he had to work tomorrow. He agreed and we started to walk off.
Well I did, he had stopped and gotten onto one knee. I noticed right away that he stopped walking and turned around to find out. I wasn't expecting him to be on one knee while holding what looked like a jewelry box.
I asked him if that was for me, and he rolled his eyes and sarcastically said it was for the jellyfish. We both laugh and I walk over and take the box from his hands. He stands up and gets on the side of me to watch me open it.
I open the box and find a beautiful locket inside. I gasped at how beautiful it was, and I hugged him as I thanked him. He was happy I was happy, but he said there was more to it. He opened it up to show me he already had photos put inside.
On one side was a picture of us, with the words My true love engraved on the metal below, and on the other side was a picture of our kids with the words The best mother engraved on the metal below it. I admit I broke into tears and jumped into his arms.
I told him it was so amazing, and that I’d wear it all the time. He laughed and called me cute, then helped me put it on. After I dried my tears he took my hand again, and we slowly walked back to our car. I truly love my life and I’m so happy to have it. The matchmaker was right, we were truly the perfect match.
