Briyelle opened her eyes and yawned. She then tossed her blanket up and walked over to her closet. Her ship's AI, Callisto, appeared and greeted her. Briyelle greeted her back, and the two walked over to the auto closet.
Briyelle hit the button and watched as cute dress after cute dress appeared around her body. This was her favorite morning routine ever since she was finally allowed to change her gender a few years back.
Briyelle was originally a guy who was born as a nobody on one of the Houses. She always hated it and wanted to change to female, but she lived in one of the most strict houses that didn’t allow a person to do that.
They did allow someone to leave the House when they turned twenty-one, so the say Briyelle did, she left and went to the empire, where she was able to undergo the procedure in order to become female.
It was an extremely easy process as well, nothing like it was in the days of old. The procedure is a simple injection into the brain and heart. The serum will then quickly flow through the body, changing the DNA of the person on every level.
So it only took Briyelle a few minutes to get the body she wanted. It was so easy and cheap to do that many in the empire did it all the time for all kinds of things. Really, the only place that has a problem with it happened to be the place she was born.
Of course things got crazy for her after that, and she ended up in deepspace as the captain of the Callisto SR-131. Briyelle stops the auto closet at a nice purple dress that stops at her knees and asks Chindlr how she looks.
Her peppy AI friend thought it was great, as she always does. Also happy with her outfit, Briyelle heads to the command console and sits down. She then asks Chindlr for the report of the scans she asked to be run before she went to bed.
Chindlr goes over it and tells Briyelle that there’s an asteroid with decent minerals to mine on the other side of this sector. Briyelle smiled; that was perfect. she’d go mine them, bring them to the nearest caravan, and sell them, and then pick up some new clothes.
Briyelle took command of the ship, which activated her space suit to cover her body. She then started to shoot through the stars at incredible speeds. Briyelle loved her ship; even though it was on the smaller side of ships, it was among the top when it came to speed.
Most ships have hyperdrives, but unlike in movies, they’re not actually faster than light yet, though they get closer and closer as each year passes. The Callisto SR-131 is among the few that can reach a little over ten percent of light speed.
The average ship, due to size and what they’re built for, is only about three percent, while some can reach five percent, but only ships like the Callisto SR-131 were built with speed in mind and can reach the greatest speeds developed by man.
Of course, most of those ships aren't as small as Callisto SR-131; Briyelle is the one who turned the Callisto SR-131 into a speed demon. She took a Dawn Ophelia X-28 skip hyperdrive she salvaged and installed it into her ship.
It was an engine meant for much larger ships and allowed them to occasionally teleport instantly through space at the cost of a great amount of energy, which required Briyelle to install a 77Bl-Suncore into the ship, which takes up her other bedroom.
Since she’s in a small ship, it allows her to skip a great distance for not nearly as much energy as a larger ship, so she can do it nearly ten times before running out of energy, and with the 77Bl-Suncore, all she has to do is sit near a sun to recharge it.
Thanks to that, Briyelle is easily the captain of one of the fastest ships in deep space. Briyelle makes it to the asteroid in less than a couple of hours and gets ready to start mining it. That’s when Callisto brought a distress signal to her attention. Briyelle checks it out and finds it’s from Zeta-13.
She realizes that it would be more beneficial to try and claim it as hers instead of the minerals in the asteroid. So she kicks the ship in gear again and takes off towards Zeta-13. She arrives to find tons of ships swerving and struggling to avoid anomalies.
Briyelle chuckles. Sure, it’s dangerous, but that’s when a ship like hers shines best. It’s fast so it can get past things quicker, and it’s small, which makes it easier to dodge things. Briyelle speeds through the anomalies that appear on her sides and even passes half the people who got here before her.
She swerved around a spurt of lava that came shooting out of a portal that had a volcano on the other side. She even does a flip and shoots a rocket to break a ghost ship that was suddenly slingshotted towards one of the other ships near her.
Eventually she made it to Zeta-13 and was the first to land at the space station. If only that was enough to claim it, or she would have just won. As she leaves her ship, the others make it to the space station and land.
Briyelle was a bit disappointed they kept up with her but then smiled as she knew she was still faster since she arrived last and even helped some of them. She chats with some of the other pilots and catches up with some she considered friends.
Then they all head to the orbital elevator and start to go down to the surface. That’s when more problems arise. An anomaly causes the space station to vanish, sending all the ships and captains into a free fall.
Briyelle quickly contacts Chindlr, who gets the ship activated and flying towards her before the rest of the ships even activate. She was the first one to be caught and was the closest to the ground when the second big anomaly passed through them.
It caused Briyelle to pass out, and when she woke up, she was lying on a rock on the surface. Briyelle sat up and yawned, then tried to contact Chindlr but got no response. So she tried to summon her ship but also got no response.
Briyelle was confused and stood up, which was when she noticed her whole body felt different. It not only felt smaller, but it also felt mechanical. Briyelle looked down at herself and noticed right away her breasts were a fraction of the size they had been when she arrived.
Briyelle was nearly in tears; she loved those things, but she held them back and walked around until she found a bit of crystal sticking out of a rock, which she could use to look at herself. She was shocked to find that she didn’t even recognize the person she was looking at.
The girl she was looking at was short, maybe about four and a half feet tall, which was about a foot shorter than she was before. She was thinner and smaller in most areas, and she looked quite young, perhaps even a teenager, not someone who was closer to thirty.
The girl also had a ton of mechanical upgrades, which looked quite familiar. Briyelle stared at the bright yellow plating. It looked just like the plating that covered her ship, but that made no sense. Briyelle turned around and looked.
No ships or people were around her. So maybe it was? She looked back at herself. Had something happened that caused her to merge with her ship? Was something like that truly possible? Briyelle didn’t know much about anomalies, but it seemed to be the only explanation.
Briyelle looked down at herself. She was glad to still be a girl but quite worried about what this means. Was she a robot? A person? Both? Or even a ship now? As Briyelle said that, she suddenly skip-jumped backwards a great distance in an instant.
Briyelle was startled by it but quite amazed. She just teleported like it was nothing. It also confirmed she had indeed merged with her ship and even obtained its unique abilities. Briyelle tried to skip jump to another area, but her new HUD warned her to know it was dangerous.
The warnings her HUD gave her said that using it again would use up all remaining energy, which would cause her to go into extreme fatigue; if she used it again after that, she’d go into emergency rest mode from exhaustion.
Apparently since the parts got smaller when they merged with her, they’re not as great as when they were huge and in the ship. So Briyelle can teleport instantly a great distance, but it’s not safe to do more than once an hour, at least with her current parts.
Briyelle puffed her cheeks. She was a bit annoyed she wasted it for the time being. If she knew about that, she’d have saved it in order to get to the center of Zeta-13 first. Briyelle looked toward the center.
She then realized she had to get moving before the others got there first. Briyelle took off running and immediately noticed another perk of her new body. She was quick and agile; it was almost like having superpowers, and she was quite excited, but she was more excited to use this to her advantage and claim Zeta-13 as her own.
