Walking a Mile In Her Shoes I (YT)

I was sitting outside the bathroom waiting for my twin sister, Mira, to finish doing whatever it was she was doing. I honestly have no idea, but what I do know is she wasn’t using the toilet, which I really needed to use before I flooded my pants.

I bang on the door several times and tell her to hurry up, but she just ignores me. I then hit the door harder and demanded to know what could possibly be taking her so long. Finally she opens the door and I find her in the middle of doing her hair and makeup.

She looks annoyed and tells me that as a simple guy, I couldn’t possibly understand the effort a beautiful and mature woman like her goes through. She then told me it takes time and that it’s my fault for not waking up before her, knowing full well she does this every day.

I shook my head and laughed. Beautiful and mature weren’t words I’d use to describe her. More like annoying and a pain. I tell her it’s not fair that I have to wake up early just to use the bathroom and that there is no way it should take this long.

She sighed and said it did, at least if you’re doing it right. She then looked away and continued doing her hair, saying a simple boy like me couldn’t understand, since I think looking like a slob with messy hair is a passable look in society.

I told her that there wasn’t much to understand; she was just using the fact that she was a girl to hog the bathroom, and if I were in her spot, I’d be able to do my hair and makeup and get ready for the day in half the time.

She looked at me annoyed and like she was ready to say something mean, but then stopped. She smiled and asked me if I really thought being a girl was easier than she made it seem. I nodded and said it was.

She smiled and said, Then I should prove it. For one whole day, starting tonight before bed and ending tomorrow night. I have to do everything she does. If I could do it better and faster than her, she’d admit she was wrong and let me ask her to do any one thing I wanted.

However, if I failed to be better and faster than her, she’d ask me to do one thing she wanted. I thought about it. I knew I could do it; everyone knew boys were better at everything, so this would be an easy chance to make her look bad as well as getting basically a limitless I.O.U.

I agree and then push her out of the bathroom for a moment. I leave and she looks at me with a gross look, as I totally forgot to wash my hands. The two of us then go on about our days, and when night comes around, I was getting ready for bed when she came into my room.

She handed me a pair of her pajamas and told me that I had to wake up just like her, which meant wearing girly pajamas. I turn bright red and look down at the clothes she handed me as she leaves my room.

I gulped as I realized I basically agreed to be a girl for a whole day. I’ll admit she got me there, and she probably thinks that’s enough to get me to bail, but it wasn’t. I take the pajamas and put them on, then I jump in bed. No matter what, I was going to be better. Even if that meant being better at being a girl, but only for tomorrow; after that, I’m back to being a guy.

It was early in the morning and I was dead asleep when suddenly the light to my room turned on. I sat up confused, half asleep, and wondering what the heck was going on. That’s when I found my sister standing at my door.

She has a big smile on her face as she tells me it is time to get up and get ready. I look over at my alarm clock and see that it’s an hour and a half before we’d normally get up. I asked her why she woke me up so early.

She shook her head and said this was the time she normally got up and that it was time to get ready for the day. I groan and roll out of bed. I then walk out of my room and follow Mira to her bedroom.

I yawn and ask her to hurry up so we can get this over with. She shakes her head and tells me to stand next to her. I do so and ask exactly what we’re doing. She looks at me and says, morning stretching and yoga.

I must have given her a strange look as she sighed and said that it was good for the body and that I might actually enjoy it, as both men and women do it. I shake my head and tell her that my body is perfectly fine and I don’t need to do stuff like this.

She then laughed and looked at me with a smile. She said that was fine, but she did this every morning, and the whole point of this was to do what she did but better, right? I sigh; she had me there. Though I don’t know if I truly believe she does this every day.

She told me that we were going to start off with some basic exercises. She said the first of which would be five sets of ten squats. She then laughed and said it would do me a lot of good, since girls like guys with firm backsides.

I ignored her and started to do the squats. I did two whole sets before she finished her first, and I felt great knowing I was already beating her, but then it hit me. Not only was I starting to cramp, but I was already tired.

So she easily caught up to me as each squat started to take longer and longer. By the time she finished, I was on my second-to-last set, and I ended up failing and wasn't able to keep going. Mira surprisingly didn’t gloat about it and just gave me some water.

She then said that happens, especially when people aren't used to working out. She then told me that next we can just work on bending over and touching our toes without bending our knees; after that, she said we should be good to go.

I watched her do it with ease, then I tried it, but I couldn’t do it. I was just shy of being able to do it, but my arms just didn’t seem long enough, or perhaps my body wasn’t flexible enough to actually do it.

I tried several times to do it once, and when I looked over, Mira was doing it over and over again. She finishes and looks at me and shakes her head. She patted me on the back and said that was good enough. She then said we’d do some very simple yoga before heading to the bathroom to get ready.

You're very right. My brother has long hair (not as long as mine, as mine is nearly three feet long), but he barely washes it. I try to wash my hair every two days. I also brush my hair every day. (sometimes more than once a day), and I use hair fragrance to make it smell nice. His hair is a tangled mess, greasy, and does not smell nice. So I spend a lot more time on my hair than he does. Luckily he sleeps all day and is up all night, and I'm just awake all the time. So we make it work. (Plus I just installed a mirror on my wall!!! So happy about it.) As for these siblings, yeah, neither is wrong. The problem is they don't understand each other and haven't made an attempt to. Maybe that'll be fixed by the end of this.

"Walk a mile in someone else's shoes"... unfortunately, there is no such phrase in Russian, but there is a close analogue, "To be in someone else's shoes"... but I think it makes no difference which of the phrases to use, since any of them quite clearly conveys the essence of the story... and yes, here we can see a classic version of a dispute between a brother and a sister... but we must admit that in their dispute no one is wrong, since each of them is right in their own way in this situation, it's just that men and women have different approaches to self-care... plus it also depends on personal characteristics... for example, my younger brother grew long hair and washes it almost daily with incredible care, but I do this no more than once a week simply because I have a short haircut....
