Deepspace: Nyco and the Assembly Entrance (Ea)(Com)

A commission for last_of_workers

Nyco was flying around looking for something she could use to get inside Zeta-13. So far she had found two entrances, but both of them didn’t work out, once because the tunnel had collapsed and the other because an anomaly was filling the tunnel with bad radiation.

So she had to keep looking and, to her surprise and entrancement, somehow found her. It happened when she heard a bullet fly by her head. She stopped and looked around and found a beat-up drone with a broken propeller trying to chase her.

Nyco watched it for a moment and noticed a large crater behind it that seemed to be set up like a practice battlefield. Nyco figured it was some testing facility, which would have an entrance, so she flew towards it, using one of her blades in her left arm to cut the drone that attacked her.

It fell to the ground as she flew towards the battlefield. Once she landed, she noticed there were quite a few drones flying around, as well as many more on the ground, broken and beyond repair. Nyco looked around and found a large open metal door, which seemed to lead into the facility.

Nyco walked to it, avoiding the rest of the drones so they wouldn’t freak out and attack her as well. Once inside, she was both amazed and worried by what she saw. It seemed she found herself in the assembly and repair area where the facility's security drones are made.

Some of the assembly lines were still active and creating new drones, while the repair station was working, but it didn’t really seem like it was repairing drones, more like changing them drastically with new random parts, making them bigger and more dangerous.

Nyco noticed the control room for the drones. Inside there would be the main computer that controls all the drones and makes them work. If she could get in there, she could shut them all down and make the area safe.

She was about to walk over to it when suddenly this massive amalgamation of drones came flying into the assembly area and crashed right into the control room, destroying everything inside it. That was a big problem for Nyco and everything around it.

The drones no longer had something keeping them in check, nor did they have a way to be shut down. So now all the drones in the area, including the big behemoth of fused drones, were going crazy, shooting at everything and anything.

They started attacking each other and the assembly, and in some cases some of them were shooting into the air as if it were an enemy. Nyco was suddenly in the middle of an active battlefield, where everything fighting was now an enemy.

Some of the drones noticed her and started to shoot at her, so she ran outside and activated her fire foot to jump into the air, then her wings to start flying. She was hoping to escape, but the drones didn’t seem to want to let her go, so she had to fight.

Nyco pulled out weapons on both her arms, an electrified blade on her left for cutting through energy shields, and on her gun arm, she loaded in spacecraft-piercing bullets for piercing the metal of the drones in order to deactivate them.

Nyco then went around taking out as many drones as she could, all while the behemoth drone destroyed the assembly line trying to get its way back out. Nyco wasn’t focused on it, though; instead, she was more worried about the hundred or so drones fighting outside with her.

Luckily only a handful of them were after her, and the rest were fighting each other, but that still meant she had to fly around dodging bullets by using aerial maneuvers and then looking for the perfect time to fly in and cut one of the drones down or line up a nice shot to blast them down.

By the time she destroyed the last one on her tail, the behemoth drone got outside. Nyco looked down at it and was shocked. It seemed to be twice the size it was when she saw it smash into the control panel.

The behemoth started to fly towards the other drones that were fighting, crashing right through them, blowing them up into pieces. The pieces rained down to the ground, and Nyco noticed that where the behemoth had been hit, it had some holes exposing its insides.

Inside, Nyco could see a ball of light, which seemed to be some sort of magnetic force or something, likely created by an anomaly. It was likely what was causing the behemoth to get bigger and stay together.

Nyco wondered if she could take it out by shooting the exposed ball of light, but as she watched it, she was shocked to see two new drone parts appear in each spot that had been destroyed. It was like a hydra; two new heads grew in when one was cut. The only difference was this was a drone.

Nyco was suddenly unsure about fighting it. It seemed like it would be impossible to destroy, yet as a former soldier, she knew she couldn't let it roam free and continue to get bigger and more dangerous.

Not only because she knew there were other captains here, but because at some point it might get big enough and powerful enough to travel through space, and if somehow it made its way out of deep space and to Terrarth, humanity would be doomed.

Nyco flew towards the behemoth and tried to end it quickly by unloading all the grenades from her legs into one spot on it. She watched as pieces were engulfed by fire and broke off and prepared her shot at the ball of light at its core.

However, as Nyco lined up her shot, the behemoth started to play a sound; it was almost like a digital screech, but it made everything around it that had even a bit of technology in it glitch out, including Nyco.

One of her wings lost a bit of power, causing her to drop a bit, and it made her miss her shot. That gave the behemoth time to repair itself and get even bigger. Once it was repaired, the sound stopped. Of course that caused a new problem.

All the drones around stopped glitching and were now aimed at the behemoth because it attacked them. They were all getting closer, and as they did, they began to create a round dome around Nyco and the behemoth.

So now Nyco was surrounded by drones, face-to-face with the behemoth, and there were bullets everywhere, and the space she had to fight in was getting smaller and smaller by the second. It was so intense, she could barely get time to try and attack.

She had to put everything into dodging, or else she’d get shot out of the sky and die. As she flew around looking for a way out of this mess, she noticed that the drones were getting closer and closer to the behemoth.

Not purposely, though, almost like they were being pulled towards it. Nyco looked at the behemoth and saw that there were drones already being pulled into it. It seemed to be damaging itself in order to grow bigger and stronger while now absorbing the other drones into itself.

Nyco looked around; at the current rate, in mere moments a ton of them would be hitting the behemoth all at once. That was a very bad thing, as it would make it grow several times larger, but it could also be Nyco’s only way to destroy it.

Nyco was still flying around, dodging bullets and drones that couldn’t fly right, and started to look through the types of ammo she had. She had normal blaster bullets, spacecraft-piercing bullets, plasma bullets, and lastly, sticky explosive bullets, which were perfect.

Those she could shoot at the drones heading towards the behemoth and then detonate them all at once to destroy it. Nyco started to fly around randomly shooting those bullets. She couldn't really focus on aiming, so she was hoping that she was hitting some of them.

After flying around in a circle that was getting smaller and smaller by the second, Nyco hoped it was enough and changed course and flew right through a wall of drones. She got shot a few times, and smashing her head and body on the metal of the drones hurt, but she managed to get free.

She then flew up out of the way and looked down at the dome of drones with the behemoth drone inside. Nyco waited for all the drones to hit the behemoth and make it grow larger. Once they were all inside it, Nyco activated the explosives and watched as an inferno erupted from it.

There was a huge explosion, and so much smoke came out afterward that Nyco had no idea if it actually worked, at least not until the behemoth came flying out of the smoke and hit her. Nyco went flying back but managed to stabilize herself.

She then looked over at the behemoth and was left horrified. Her attack not only failed but made it so much bigger. It was larger than all the spaceships that arrived here combined, and it was far more powerful and dangerous.

Nyco wasn’t sure she could stop it; she wasn’t sure anyone could stop it. She was starting to think this was how life would come to an end, an ever-growing machine that destroys everything. Just as Nyco was losing hope, another anomaly occurred.

Suddenly the behemoth and all its parts, including the light ball at its core, turned to glitter and exploded everywhere, including all over Nyco. As glitter rained down, Nyco was left completely speechless.

All her brain could do in that moment was watch the glitter fall around her and blow away in the wind. She truly couldn't believe what just happened. After a few minutes, Nyco’s system tells her she’s used too much power and needs to land, so she does.

She then, without saying a word, still a bit stunned, walks through the battlefield. Not a single working drone in sight. She makes it back into the assembly and finds it completely empty, not a single machine left.

Once a pristine assembly that made quality drones, it became a facility ravaged by anomalies and forced to overwork, making lower-quality drones until it started to break down, and now there is nothing because the monster of machines took it all out.

Nyco continued to say nothing as she walked through the empty room. She made it to the other side and entered the tunnels used to travel between different parts of the facility. She was finally out of that hell, but she worried there was more waiting for her.

It could have been the end of everything. Actually, now that I think of it, it would have been this story's version of Galactus from Marvel. Traveling the universe, smashing through planets in order to hurt itself and grow bigger, and eventually even stars. Nyco may consider herself just a normal former soldier, but from this story and in my book, she's basically the Steve Rogers of deepspace.

I like this story for several reasons at once (let's skip the fact that you conveyed my idea very well, since it's obvious here) I really liked the fact that Nyco very quickly realized all the possible danger from behemoth. This really shows her as a very smart character, and the fact that she didn't retreat shows her as a real hero! And in fact, it is here that other readers will be able to understand the TRUE danger of anomalies and deep space... The ending also impressed me - joy, fear, despair and shock... it's really cool! Moreover, this turn remains cool even after you recover from the shock. The thing is that at first glance, Nyco could have not strained herself and done nothing, but in fact - if it weren't for her, behemoth would have remained near the assembly line - as a result, he would not have gotten out and, therefore, continued to remain a potential threat. besides this, if it weren't for her, then behemoth simply wouldn't have gotten into the "confetti" zone, because under the surface the anomalies are relatively small, and above the surface there are very few anomalies... that is, if it weren't for her, then this robot would have remained a sleeping threat, and the key word is - a threat, because sooner or later it would have left its lair
