A commission for last_of_workers
After teleporting around through both space and time thanks to an anomaly, Zaxary found herself standing behind someone. Zaxary reached her hand out and called out to the person and they stopped and turned around.
That person happened to be Vycter, one of the other captains that arrived here at the same time as her, which was a good sign, as it told Zaxary she was in the present, or at least close to it. Vycter reached her hand up and said hello to Zaxary.
Zaxary was about to do the same, but before she could, she suddenly teleported again. She now found herself standing in paradise, and by that, she seemed to be inside the main headquarters for the builders that worked throughout Zeta-13.
The very place where all the knowledge, blueprints, and super important projects would be stored and worked on. Zaxary reached her hands up and happily yelled that this place was perfect and would likely have what she needed.
Suddenly someone asked Zaxary why she was yelling. Zaxary lowered her hands and saw Vycter standing there annoyed. Zaxary apologized for yelling and then introduced herself, which only made Vycter sigh and hold her head.
Vycter asked if this was the first time Zaxary had met her. Zaxary nodded and confirmed, then apologized that the anomaly that attached itself to her affected Vycter as well. Vycter let out a laugh and said it didn’t, and this wasn’t the first time she’d met Zaxary.
Zaxary was confused but then realized this is likely a different Vycter, one in the future, which meant Zaxary jumped ahead again. Vycter said that if this was the first time they met, Zaxary had a long road ahead of her.
Vycter explained that she had met Zaxary, then watched her vanish and immediately come back, and then the two of them traveled through zeta-13 together as partners and came across quite a few anomalies.
The first being a mechanical bunny that shot buzzsaw blades. After that Zaxary teleported again and didn’t come back until Vycter made it to the barracks. That’s when Vycter stepped in an acid slime, which grabbed her whole leg.
Vycter then showed her leg, saying that it dissolved the old one so much it was unusable, but Zaxary teleported again and came back with a new leg, one that Zaxary was able to adjust to work with Vycter’s body's many requirements.
After that they caught a subway train and traveled to the department of station builders because Zazary said that’s where they were going. Once they arrived, they were swept off their feet by a wind anomaly and nearly turned to shreds when sharp metal pieces appeared.
Using teamwork, they managed to get to safety and once they were finally inside, they started looking around, and they found a lot of useful information inside. Zaxary gulped and asked if that was really what she had in store for her future.
Before Vycter could confirm, Zaxary was teleported through time again. This time she seemed to be in some storage room filled with female robots and extra parts for them. Zaxary walked up to the glass window that looked out into the main part of this area and it seemed to be an arsenal.
It was interesting, but even more interesting was the fact that Vycter was messing around with random junk. Zaxary started to bang on the glass to get her attention, which did cause Vycter to look around, but Vycter didn’t end up noticing Zaxary and went back to looking at junk.
So Zaxary just sighed, knowing full well she wouldn’t be here long, and she should make the best out of this jump. Zaxary pulled up the information that Vycter relayed about her future jumps, and from the looks of the room she was in and the info she had, there was one reason she was here.
Zaxary got right to work inspecting the female robot parts, finding one that would be quite powerful and work with Vycter’s body. Once she had one, Zaxary started to make the adjustments needed while she waited to teleport again.
After a few minutes, the teleport came, and Zaxary found herself back in the original spot where she had met Vycter. Vycter was confused and asked what was going on. Zaxary sighed and said it was complicated, but she could explain as they made their way through Zeta-13.
Vycter was still confused but agreed to travel with Zaxary, as it was safer as a team. Zaxary goes into detail about everything she knew so far from being turned into a mechanical girl, getting this time-jumping anomaly attached to her, and meeting Vycter in the future.
Vycter was a bit lost, but to be fair, she was having a hard time focusing on things with Zaxary carrying around an extra leg, which she had yet to explain the purpose of. Before she could ask, they were attacked by the mechanical bunny with buzzsaws that Future Vycter warned about.
It attacked Vycter first, who managed to use her metal arms to block the buzzsaws and send sparks flying everywhere. Zaxary saw the attack and jumped in to rescue her; being that she was taller and quite strong, it was quite easy for Zaxary to pick the mechanical bunny right up.
That kept it from attacking either of them, though it did try. Zaxary couldn’t just let it wander around being a menace; she had to deactivate it, and luckily for her, her system seems to have the schematics for a normal mechanical bunny, which should be good enough.
Zaxary popped the back panel off its head and tried to get her hands inside it to pull some wires, but unfortunately, the bunny was tiny and with her increased size, she couldn’t get her hands inside. That left her thinking her only choice was to break it, which she thought was a waste and a shame.
However, Vycter said she could help; she then popped one of her arms off and handed it to Zaxary. She told Zaxary to hold it in her hand and guide it where she needed it; then Zaxary just needed to tell her what to do with her hand and she would do it.
Zaxary said that worked and took Vycter’s arm and did just that, giving precise and clearly understandable commands as to not let Vycter accidentally fry her arm. Once they had the bunny deactivated, Zaxary noticed something inside it that wasn’t supposed to be there.
Zaxary had Vycter grab ahold of it and pull it out. Once it was out and dropped in Zaxary’s hands, she noticed it was a keycard for the barracks, the place she knew Vycter would be heading soon. Zaxary quickly handed the keycard and Vycter’s arm back to her.
She then told Vycter to head to the barracks and she’d meet her there at some point. Vycter was confused and asked Zaxary where she was going, still not completely understanding that Zaxary was randomly time jumping.
Zaxary grabbed the extra leg and then immediately teleported. She arrived at the barracks after Vycter stepped in the acid slime, with Vycter sitting on the ground missing a leg. Vycter smiled and was super happy that the Zaxary with the extra leg was back.
Zaxary laughed and said she was indeed and that she had made all the alterations needed for Vycter to use it. She then sat on the ground and got to work installing it to Vycter’s body, which was surprisingly easy with Vycter’s module body.
Once Vycter was back up, she started testing her new leg, which came with a magnetic boot that she could aim at any surface and pull herself to. Once she was fully adjusted, Zaxary explained that the future Vycter told her that the two of them went to the subway next.
Vycter nodded and followed behind Zaxary, waiting to see if she was going to teleport away and be replaced with another version of herself, but it didn’t come; instead, the two made it peacefully to the subway and rode it to the builder’s headquarters.
Once they stepped off and were looking at the entrance to the headquarters, Zaxary let out an awkward laugh and told Vycter to brace herself as the wind was coming. Vycter squinted her eyes and looked confused, then asked what that meant.
That answer came quickly as an anomaly occurred and powerful winds started to blow, picking them both up and tossing them around. Moments later sharp pieces of metal were added to the mix and the two of them were being flung around, being cut and damaged.
Vycter started yelling at Zaxary, asking her what they did to get out of this, which future Vycter didn’t mention; all she said was teamwork. As Zaxary was flung around, she inspected the area around them and noticed a box that controlled this area’s gravity.
If she could get to it, she could increase the gravity enough to make the wind stop, but she couldn’t possibly get to it on her own. Luckily Vycter was here and had a special new leg. Zaxary yelled at Vycter to use her leg to bring the two of them together.
Vycter nodded and aimed her leg at Zaxary and was suddenly pulled through the winds and sharp metal until her foot was attached to Zaxary. Once they were attached, Zaxary grabbed Vycter and then told her to detach her leg and then use it to bring them to the gravity box.
Vycter nodded and once again aimed her leg, and like before, she was pulled toward the object she wanted to attach to while also bringing Zaxary along with her. Once the two were at the box, Zaxary got to work messing with it.
The gravity control panel was simple, and Zaxary had knowledge about similar models made after it, so she was able to successfully change the gravity. The wind instantly died down, and the two of them were able to fall to the ground safely.
From there it was a slightly tough and long walk to the entrance of the facility thanks to the increased gravity, but it was better than being cut and smashed to pieces. Once they were inside, Zaxary went right to the file room to start downloading everything they had.
Zaxary was amazed at what she found inside; there were blueprints for the entire Zeta-13 facility, detailed information on the three center rooms, current status reports on the command center and elevator power, and details about Zeta-13’s true purpose.
There were also heaps and heaps of files on something called the Column, which they found to be linked to the anomalies that occur here. It seemed to be made of an unknown dark blue metal, and despite all the scientists' efforts, it was impossible to damage in any way.
Even stranger than something that can’t be destroyed, the surface of the Column on all sides was covered in signatures of different people. In further studies, they found the Column has no weight of its own but instead has a perceived weight by those that try to pick it up.
They also tried to move the Column a hundred kilometers above Zeta-13, which caused major problems. The laws of physics as the scientist knew them changed in unpredictable ways and caused a lot of casualties.
The scientist also discovered a way to turn the Column off, but doing so is incredibly dangerous. Doing so causes many anomalies to move towards the center of Zeta-13 and activate. From what Zaxary could tell, it was this very test that caused the downfall of Zeta-13.
The Column had been turned off, and the anomalies went wild, and somehow as the people were escaping, the Column reactivated, or it was likely this sector space would have been completely destroyed. Zaxary stopped to think for a moment.
With the Column activated, they couldn’t move it or Jirlopos-4 without major trouble. If they deactivated it, they could theoretically move Jirlopos-4 away using the large warp engine. The risk of that, though, would be doing it too early; the anomalies will come with them.
If they do it too late, they’ll all likely die due to something equivalent to a black hole, just made out of anomalies. It was a hell of a risk, but for Zaxary there was another benefit to trying. If she could actually make Jirlopos-4 move around, she could make her dream come true.
With how big it is, it would be perfect for landing huge ships on it, which would mean it was a great place to set up a repair station like she’s always wanted, and if the place moved, it meant she could go anywhere in deep space; she wouldn’t be trapped on the edges of it.
So she was going to try it; not that they have much of a choice, it seemed easier to turn Jirlopos-4 into a ship than to hope there are enough working parts here to build one. The only thing she’ll really need is help; she doubted herself and Vycter could do it alone.
Zaxary went and found Vycter, who was looking through some datapads. Zaxary then explained everything she could to Vycter about what she had discovered and her plan. After a bit, Vycter seemed to understand and was on board with the plan.
She mentioned wanting to look through a bit more datapads, as she said she found some information relating to power inventions they had stored here in the builders' headquarters. Zaxary didn’t hear that though, as she had teleported away again.
Before she knew it, she was standing inside the barracks as the Vycter in the past walked inside. Vycter seemed surprised to see Zaxary and asked her what happened to the creepy leg she was carrying.
Zaxary sighed and looked down at Vycter’s legs and noticed they both looked the same. Zaxary just shook her head and said she had used it already, but that Vycter would soon find that out. Vycter seemed worried and asked what that meant.
Yet again, as if by fate, yet again before a question could be answered, something happened. Vycter took a step forward, and her foot got stuck. She looked down and started to panic when she saw that an anomaly made an acid slime appear around her leg.
Vycter asked for help in a panic, and Zaxary came over and just popped Vycter’s leg off and pulled her over to a safe space. They then watched the slime consume Vycter’s leg before melting through the floor and vanishing.
Vycter sat there shocked about losing her leg and then asked if Zaxary happened to have another leg lying around. Zaxary shook her head and said no, that she had used it, but that version of her would be here any moment with it.
Vycter looked annoyed and said this time hopping stuff was really confusing. Zaxary laughed and agreed but said it was more annoying since she wasn’t experiencing time in the same order as her, plus the fact they may have made a paradox or two, which is never good.
Zaxary then stopped to think; as far as she knew, she had gone through everything future Vycter mentioned, but she knew she was about to teleport again, but this time she had no idea where she’d end up.
When the next teleport came, Zaxary found herself back at the builders' headquarters, and surprisingly all the lights were on, and there were strange devices all over the place. Zaxary was about to call out to Vycter to see if she was here when suddenly something touched her back.
Zaxary turned her head to look at it, and it turned out it was Vycter, and she had attached some device to her back. Zaxary asked what it was, and Vycter said it was a time stabilizer, a device she found here that should keep Zaxary in this time.
Zaxary had a big smile on her face and asked if that was true and if it worked. Vycter said it was what the data said; as for working, they’d soon find out. Zaxary turned around and hugged Vycter and thanked her, saying that the whole time jumping thing was driving her nuts.
She then sat down on the ground and leaned against something. She said that now that she could take a moment to rest, she would, and once she’s ready to go again, they can sift through more data and continue working to restore this facility in order to use it.
