Forever Tied: The Battle With The Mad King (Com)

A commission for last_of_workers!

Swetyne, Loren, and Bistro arrived at the castle. Not a single monster or soldier was there to guard the doors. “This is some sort of trap, right? Like a ton of guys are going to jump out at us?” Loren said while looking around trying to use her vampire sense to detect enemies.

“No, the king was never one for tricks like that. He was always direct and hands-on.” Bistro said a bit embarrassed.” “I can sense him deep within, he’s waiting for us,” Swetyne said staring intensely towards the throne room.

“He’s waiting for us without any backup? This should be easy then.” “I wouldn’t be so sure, he’s never been defeated in battle. I think it’s likely due to all the powerful artifacts he had at his disposal.” “Powerful artifacts? Any info you know will help me when we start fighting.”

The group began to make their way to the throne room. “I don’t really know the exact details, but he has a special armor that’s resistant to all magic, and almost impossible to penetrate. He has some sword with a soul imbued in it, and is said to not only cut the body but the soul as well.”

Loren gulped. “That doesn’t sound very good.” “Think that’s bad, it’s also made of Adamant, which is indestructible.” “So we can’t hit this guy, and we can’t be hit by this guy…. How are we going to win?” “Honestly I don’t think we can, which is why I’ve never dared disobey him.”

“Everyone has a weakness. We’ll find a way.” Swetyne said stoically and without fear. “I think you’re crazy, but you’re convincing. My vampiric strength is at your disposal captain.” Loren gave a petty salute and the three of them entered the throne room.

“So… you’ve arrived… I expected more…” The mad king sat on his throne looking mildly uninterested in the group that walked in. “Well, we’re plenty to beat you.” The Mad King sighed. “If.. you say.. so” He stood up and picked up his greatsword.

He dragged it alongside him as he approached the group. The whole time screams could be heard from the sword as it scraped the ground and sparked. The Mad King stopped about ten feet in front of Swetyne. “Are… you... ready to die?”

Before Loren and Blisto could react The mad King had swung his massive sword aiming for their heads. Fortunately, Swetyne was quick enough to react. She grabbed Bistro and Loren’s heads and pushed them down, all while grabbing her sword and using it as a shield from the blow.

She was tossed across the room but landed on her feet using her sword to stop and reduce her speed before she slid into a wall. Loren was on the ground huffing. “That… that was so fast.” Bistro had gotten up and started to run from the Mad King.

This caught his attention and he recognized her. “You… You’re a… Traitor…” The Mad King swung his sword again, and Bistro barely managed to dodge it. The whole area behind her exploded as the slash impacted it and sent pieces flying.

Loren had gotten up and turned into a bat. She flew up behind The Mad King tuned back into her normal form and used the momentum she got from gravity to smash into The Mad King's head as hard as possible.

But it didn’t even phase him, and he took that opportunity to grab Loren by the neck. “H..ey… Le…t me.. g..o..” Loren was struggling to get free. Swetyne started to run over to help her, but The Mad King didn’t hesitate and snapped her neck. “NO!!!”

He tossed Loren’s body to the side and charged at Swetyne. The two began to clash swords. Swetyne was barely able to keep up with his speed, but the strength behind his attacks felt as though they were breaking her bones and, at the very least breaking her sword.

Bistro was sitting across the room waiting and panicking. Her specialty magic was mind magic, which The Mad King was resting too, so she was basically useless against him. Then she realized a new way to use her powers.

She ran over to Loren who was still alive, well as alive as a vampire can be, she was just unconscious. “Mind over matter or however the saying goes. I sure hope this works.” Blisto began to use her magic to rewrite Loren's mind.

“Let’s see… Uh fist, your neck isn't broken.” Suddenly Loren’s neck popped back into place. “Wow, it worked, how about this? You’re super fast and strong, and your hearing is so good you can hear the tiniest movement from the Mad King as he begins to attack.”

There was no visible change this time. “I hope that worked. Now, you’re not unconscious.” Loren’s eyes opened and she sat up. “Whoa, I feel good, like really good. Did you do something to me while I was asleep?” “As weird as that sounds, yes, now go help Swetyne and I’ll maintain the spells.”

Loren nodded, stood up, and dashed towards The Mad King with so much force behind her she destroyed parts of the floor as she ran. She hit The Mad King and sent him flying. “Whoa, how did you get so strong?” “Not sure, Bistro did something, now I’m just as fast and strong as you two.”

“That’s good, I could use the help, he’s already broken my arm in two places.” Loren looked at her and sure enough, she was now wielding her sword in her right hand instead of her dominant left one. “Then let’s end this and get you patched up by Liwet.”

Swetyne nodded and both of them charged at The Mad king. The three of them clashed over and over again, with the area around them getting destroyed each time The Mad King swung his sword. Bistro knew she had to do something more to help.

Bistro was still maintaining her spells on Loren but was able to concentrate enough to use spells with her other hand. She began to shoot lower-level fire at The Mad King in hopes of distracting him, even making the floor icy so he’d slip but nothing helped.

The Mad King had gotten a good swing in and sent Loren and Swetyne flying back towards Bistro. “This… is... Pointless… but.. you have.. fought well… Surrender.. now and.. I’ll… let you serve… under me.. as my… generals…”

“Not a chance in hell,” Loren said while sticking her tongue out. “Perhaps we should accept… If we don’t he’ll kill us.” “You’re right about that… We need a plan…” “I’m all ears if you have one captain.” Swetyne looked around.

She noticed the grip Tha Mad King had on his sword. During her training it was beaten into her to have a perfect grip or her opponent would disarm her. Clearly, The Mad King was just a pampered brat with power stuff, so he didn’t know any better.

“Alright you two when I give the signal, I want both of you to go for his sword hand. If we get his sword we can piece his armor.” The others nodded and Loren turned into a bat and flew above The Mad King distracting him.

Bistro went behind him and started to prepare a spell. Then Swetyne walked in front of The Mad King. “Hey, your royal Madness, this ends now.” The Mad King turns towards her. “I.. agree… this has become… tiresome…”

The Mad King prepares to swing, and then Swetyn dashes towards him. She grabs his arm and holds it in place with all her strength. “NOW!” Loren once again changes back to normal and targets his hand while Bistro casts greater force and aims it at his hand.

There two attacks succeed and knock the sword from his hand. Swetyne then jumps away and grabs it. “This is it, with this, I can kill you, surrender now or die.” The Mad King looks somewhat impressed with what they achieved, but then turns his head and looks out onto the battle.

He suddenly looked annoyed as the darkness around the church began to fade “I see… you attacked the… church as well…” “Yeah, and it’s working. Your army is weakened and is being defeated as we speak, and the church of Helios is gone.”

“That… matters not... I can... rebuild those… and I’ll use your flesh.. to do so..” The Mad King vanished and appeared behind his throne. He moved the curtain to reveal a small black crystal that was oozing darkness. He picked it up and raised it to the sky.

Suddenly the energy being sent to the Whilg soldiers started to pour into the throne room and into the crystal he was holding. “What are you doing?” “Now.. that the crystal… connected to the… god of death is broken… I can finally absorb his full power…”

The Mad King gave a sinister smile. “THE FIRST THING I’LL DO WITH THAT POWER IS BLOW UP THIS CASTLE WITH YOU ALL IN IT!” “Shit we need to get out of here now.” “YOU CAN TRY, BUT YOU’RE NOT NEARLY FAST ENOUGH.”

The Cyrstal The Mad King was holding started to glow, and it was clear it was only a few seconds away from exploding. “Bistro, use your make and teleport.” “I... I can only take one person with me, and I can only go so far.”

“Take Loren and go as far as possible.” “What? Hell no, we’re not leaving you here, the princess would kill us, you go instead I’ll stay.” Swetyn smiled but pushed Loren into Bistro, who understood and teleported them away before Loren could protest.

Bistro had managed to get them outside the castle when Rargy had contacted her through their mental connection. “RARGY! WE’RE IN TROUBLE! SWETYNE IS ALSO STUCK WITH THE MAD KING AND THE TOWER IS ABOUT TO EXPLODE!”

Rargy told her they were on their way. Back in the throne room Swetyne had charged the mad king and was slashing at him with his own sword. The Mad King knew well enough the sword could actually hurt him so he was avoiding every attack hoping to get the chance to take his sword back.

At the very least he just had to wait for the crystal to charge enough to take the castle down, along with the area around it, but like most villains, he was overconfident and didn’t realize Swetyne's real motives.

She changed the direction of her swing last second and cut through the crystal causing it to explode shards into The Mad King's Face and neck. “YOU FOOL! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!” “I’ve won, your crystal is broken, and with it so is your dark power and army.”

“HAHAHAHA, THAT CSYRTAL WAS MERELY A CASTIST, WITH IT EMBEDDED INTO MY BODY I CAN SUCK THE PWER DIRECTLY FROM IT.” Swetyne looked shocked. “No way, breaking it doesn’t destroy it?”

“NOT AT ALL, IT MERELY SPREADS IT, THAT HOW I WAS ABLE TO SPLIT THE SOUL OF THE GOD OF DEATH INTO ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH AND PUT HALF OF IT INTO THAT SWORD.”

Swetyne looked at the sword, there was indeed a crystal just like that on it, and instead of pumping darkness to the army, it was powering the sword to make it more powerful. “NOW PREPARE TO DIE IN AN AMAZING BURST OF FIERY DARKNESS.”

The Mad King began the explosion and Swetyne grabbed the cyrtal and jabbed it into her arm. “If I’m correct, I can use this power just like him. I have to redirect the blast.” She stuck it into her hand and started to blast its dark power at The Mad King and towards the back of the castle.

In the next moments, the top of the castle exploded along with the entire roof of the cave above it. The Whilg soldiers and monsters all fell to the ground and became lifeless. The battle was over and everyone was looking at the top of the broken castle waiting for the dust to clear and the moonlight to show the victor of the battle.

This is the standard of epicness - this is exactly what I originally wanted to see in a fight where incredibly powerful forces collide, but where victory depends not on power, but on intelligence... thanks to Riley, this is exactly what I wanted to see in this part
