Adelia, Vellith, and Rargy made it to the church without alerting any of the Whilg soldiers fighting against the distraction team. “Hmmm, there are only two people guarding the entrance, they don’t have any soldiers or Whilg monsters?” Adelia said confused.
Helios priests are some of the most powerful magic users, some of them are even more powerful than the council of mages. It’s thanks to that magic that only them and Liwet seem to be able to use.” Vellith said with a concerned tone. “You mean holy magic?” “Yes.”
Rargy was staring at the guards. “Something’s off about them.” The other two turn towards her. “What is it?” “It’s strange, but dragons have the ability to identify a person by their magical aura, and the two guards outside have the same aura, which never happens.”
“So what are you saying, those mages are the same person? They look very different.” Rargy nodded. “I think it’s more likely that one person controls all the priests and has placed parts of their soul into their bodies to control them.”
“That’s horrible.” “It also means that when we attack, all the bodies under control of this person will know where here.” Rargy smiled. “Then there’s no element of surprise. Then let’s overwhelm them with our power.”
Rargy jumped up and flapped her wings and flew toward the priests guarding the door. “What, we… we didn’t agree to that.” Vellith looked annoyed, while Adelia chucked and jumped out of hiding to follow her lead.
The priest noticed and started using their holy magic to shoot at Rargy as she flew around the area. Strangely when the shots hit something they exploded. “Their spells explode on impact? Liwets magic doesn’t do that right?”
Vellith nodded. “It must be because of the corruption from the darkness, it’s changed their magical properties to basically make each blast as strong as a bomb, we best defeat them before they can charge it.” “Right, wouldn’t want them to make it strong enough to blow this whole place up.”
Adelia grabbed her pouch and pulled out a bottle. “Rargy catch this and toss it at them.” She tossed the bottle and Rargy flew down to catch it. “Sure thing princess.” Rargy then flew in close to them and threw the bottle at their feet.
It broke and the area around them was covered in smoke. The priests were coughing and trying to cast magic to blow away the smoke, but Vellith acted quicker than her. She cast dark vision on the group and the three of them charged the door.
Rargy grabbed one of the priests and smashed him against the stone on the ground over and over until he passed out. Meanwhile, Adelia and Vellith were beating on the other guy. Vellith used her staff, and Adelia used her feet.
Once both of the priests were knocked out they entered the main part of the church. “So what are we looking for?” “I’m not too sure, the darkness feeling is overwhelming in here, so it’s hard to tell where it’s coming from. My best guess is some sort of artifact.”
“So we should look aroun…” “Somethings coming.” Rargy jumped in front of Adelia and Vellith and held them in her arms as she blocked a large incoming blast. “Rargy are you okay?” as the smoke cleared up everyone seemed fine, despite the fact that an area next to them was destroyed.
“It seems so, which is strange as I’m pretty sure it hit my tail.” Rargy pulled her tail in front of her, and sure enough, there was a bit of black char where the spell had hit and reflected off of her. More shots started to come from around them and Rargy smiled.
Using her tail she quickly swatted the blasts to the side away from the group. “I guess my tail is like magic resistant.” “I think it might be your scales, I heard some dragons had scales that couldn’t be damaged by any magic.”
“Oh makes sense, alright I’ll block the attacks and you figure out where they’re coming from.” Adelia and Vellith nodded. Vellith began to shoot blasts of fire back toward where they saw the holy magic blast coming, but she didn’t hit anything.
Adelia kept watch trying to spot them, but whatever was attacking them was moving around in the shadows. “This isn't working.” “Yeah we keep this up and I’ll get tired, and then we’ll be blasted.” “You’re right, keep going I have a plan.”
Aselia dropped to the ground and pulled out a few things from her bag. She started to mix some flowers and herbs together. She ended up making an adhesive past. “Alright, I need two things, a couple of scales from Rargy’s tail, and for Vellith to use magic to make them bigger.”
“Got it.” “Wait you need wha….” Vellith ripped two scales off before Rargy had time to think about it. “RAWG!” Rargy let out a large burst of fire from her mouth as she yelled out in pain. “Sorry, can’t disobey the princess.”
Rargy shot her a look but continued to block the incoming blasts. Vellith then used her magic to make the scales bigger, until they were the size of a knight's shield. “Perfect, spread this past over them while I get the last part ready.” “Got it.”
Adelia then pulled out a large roll. “What’s that.” “It’s something special I’d been working on. It’s basically a mirror, but it perfectly reflects spells back. It never worked well because it was flimsy, but if it’s glued onto a large dragon scale. It’ll send these attacks back at the caster.”
“That’s amazing.” Adelia smiled, ripped the belts off of her bag, and attached them to her mirror shields. “Alright, this one is for you Vellith.” Vellith attached it to her and started to help Rargy deflect the spells.
The first one that hit her bounced off of her and flew by twice as fast as it had come. It blew up the area the caster was in and they fell to the ground. “HA, take that!” “That’s nice, I need some of that. Vellith takes over.”
Rargy moved her tail towards Adelia. “You want me to cover your tail, it might not come off for a while.” “Eh, it’s fine. Just do it, it’ll be badass.” Adelia nodded and covered her tail, then attached the second mirror shield to her arm. “Alright now, let's get these guys.”
With everyone able to protect themselves, Rargy started to use her wings to give herself a small burst of speed to get around the room. Vellith then started to use teleport magically to appear in spots that their blasts were about to hit so she could reflect them back.
Adelia continued to move around to draw in attacks, and she managed to send one or two back at the carters. After a few minutes, they managed to stop the volley of attacks. “Is that it?” Rargy turned her head suddenly and looked towards the podium.
“I think the source of the darkness is getting closer.” A wicked laugh could be heard as a man wearing church robes approached. “So the princess with her witchcraft has come to turn herself over to the lord.”
Rargy and Vellith get up next to Adelia prepared to protect her and fight this guy. “Not a chance, we’ve come to stop you and whatever your evil plans are.” The Minister laughed. “We are protected by the lord, he shall see to our victory as we rid the world of those most unworthy like you.”
The minister started to expel his corrupted holy magic from his body, using it to create shockwaves from tons of mini-explosions. This started to push Vellith and Adelia backward, but not Rargy, as she was strong enough to keep in place.
Once the shockwaves stop Rargy charged at the Minister fighting with him in hand-to-hand combat. Rargy quickly managed to get a decent hit on his head, dislocating his head and causing it to fall to the side. “Haha, I got 'em!”
“HAHAHAH FOOOOOLS!” The minister's neck suddenly snapped back into place and he hit Rargy so hard she flew out of the roof. “Rargy!” Vellith said as she charged forward shooting blasts of fire and ice. Learning from Rargy, Vellith kept teleporting anytime the Minister moved.
Rargy eventually flew in and started fighting the minister again, but no matter how much damage they did, he recovered. Adelia looked around, there had to be a source. She left her friends with the Minister praying they could hold him off while she went to the basement.
Upon opening the door to the basement a fog of darkness poured out. It was almost suffocating, but Adelia knew she had to push through. She walked comply blind through the basement the whole time feeling as though something was watching her.
When she finally reached the end she found the body of what looked like a mighty demon, and in its chest was a very dark crystal. “This must be it. Now I suppose I should break it.” Adelia pulled the crystal out and dropped it on the ground.
“Good thing I slip everything I need to make a corrosive agent into my pockets.” Adelia quickly mashed the materials together, and then spread them over the crystal. “Alright not to light it and.” The flame sparked the substance and it immediately started to dissolve the crystal.
The fog of darkness around Adelia faded and the demon's body burned to dust. “It worked!” “NNNooOOOOOooO MMMYYYyy PPPoooOOOOWWweeeEEerRRr!” The Ministers screamed from the floor above. Adelia quickly ran upstairs.
When she got up there Vellith had the Minister held in place by magical chains, and Rargy was punching his face. “Shut up, already, or I’ll break your neck again.” “No! Please I surrender! Please don’t hurt me!”
Rargy pretended to think about it, then punched him in the head knocking him out. “Whatever you did princess, it worked. This guy lost all his darkness buffs, and his holy magic was nothing all that powerful.”
“Yeah, he was pretty easy to bind after that.” The three shared a small victory celebration and then got serious again. “I’ll tie this guy up with rope so we can head to the castle without worrying about him escaping.”
“Good, he deserves more than just a beating,” Rargy said punching her hand. “I guess I’ll go try to communicate with Bistro.” Rargy walked over to the corner of the room. “I guess while you do that, I’ll go check out the main battle.”
Adelia looked out before there were a ton of clashing noises from both armies, but now the Whlg army had completely stopped moving. Liwet, Edracia, and Pefsa could be seen in the distance taking advantage of this to cleanse and set as many spirits free as possible.
Suddenly Rargy came running out in a panic with Vellith behind her. “They’re in trouble.” “What!” “Bistro said the mad king had some sort of crystal he was using to power the army but he stopped powering them to have more power fighting.” Adelia looked terrified. “We have to get there as soon as possible.” The group went to run when the mad king's castle suddenly exploded.
