I don't think there's any basis to say they're xenophobic. The draw of NGL is to live a natural life without worrying about money, bills, politics etc.

I think one of the problems would be that the humans the chimera ants are based on are either a) criminal syndicate members from Gyro's guys or b) more-or-less xenophobic farmers who didn't want anything foreign ("bad") in their country that would "taint" their nation, & if their personality is a mix of that on average...whelp Colt is one of the few Chimera Ants that seems to act more out of a sense of responsibility than selfishness (only possible allies I see are the Bison-guy & the book reader), so I guess the poor guy will have to work overtime...the queen better give this man a medal ^^'

Yeah, it’s like human pregnancy, women get strange cravings to reduce the possibility of any nutritional deficiencies. A vegan high school teacher of mine had to eat animal food products when she got pregnant because her doctor said it would benefit the baby. I don't think it's within an ant queen's capabilities to be gluttonous. She just wants to birth the strongest king possible, an an instinctual drive.

Another thing to point out is the Queen is eating 50 and then 100 humans a day in preparation to birth the King, so whatever the King ends up being, it would be a chimera made of the best of all of those rather than more specifically one individual personality, like Colt for example, who was made of a combination of fewer beings, some of them animal.

Gyro unfortunately had to be set up now. I say unfortunately because it feels somewhat like a red herring, quite misleading and pointless since he only has a tangential significance in this arc, and very late into it. All you need to remember about him and NGL (which the anime has already shown you) is this: he was obviously charismatic or intelligent enough to create a whole country of his own, he was able to gather people to him to help him achieve his goals and to fight for his ambitions; his intentions were evil and the people he had gathered were a sort of cartel producing and distributing dangerous drugs (so you can assume a lot of them were not good people).

Anyway, can we stop talking about the king and think/talk about pacing? Many of us know there are some serious pacing concerns in this arc, aka events where combos should be requested, like where a certain event might be hyped up so much in one episode and if AP were to end on it, the momentum would be lost in the 4-5 days before she gets to the next episode. Just want to put that out there so we can respectfully request that our queen (AP) might consider them 😅.

Yeah, Gyro is what we believe to be the main antagonist of the entire series that will appear in a different arc ( still just speculation, but given the backstory he got + how Nen works he would make for one of the strongest characters we've seen). Basically you're made to think exactly how you predicted it, but in the manga you get a small insight about how that all plays out.

It’s funny how he uses the idea of environmentalism as a noble front for what he’s really doing, keeping people ignorant and weak as he keeps technology to himself and his associates. The anti-technology ideal is something glorified by some philosophers like Rousseau, believing civilization corrupts human nature (the ideal of a “noble savage”). Which is obviously wrong, animals also do evil even if they are ignorant. — Humans are not necessarily ignorant but we still have those atavistic drives and instincts which life rewards and encourages (manifest in politicians, corporations, even personal relationships, peer pressure, etc.) If ants are evil it’s largely because they reflect the behavior of their diet. They take after their food like we take after our parents. The more exclusively human their diet...

About Gyro, he won’t be the king but he becomes an ant and is foreshadowed to be an antagonist in the manga. It’s cut out since he won’t be in this arc. People are pretty hyped for his potential. Could say more about him from the manga but it is a spoiler (even if others don’t understand why).

“Reina” also means “queen” in Spanish. The terrible combo of the country of NGL and the chimera ants has to do with the lack of technology and thus lack of reporting for the world to react accordingly. It allows their phagogenetic evolution to continue unhindered.
