I wouldn't say Stain's ability is cheap because it is his quirk, and he's using it just the same as any hero he fights. Using knives also means he has to do close range fighting against possible long range heroes. Plus he has to still hit them. Deku's smash is really powerful, but ultimately useless if he can't touch Gran Torino ;)
