As far as I understood L's explanation on watching for Light's reaction, he meant that the real Kira would have no interest in revealing someone who would get rid of his worst enemies and so would try to cover up the second Kira's existence to not prevent L's death.
Call me simple - but I am completely fine with living for the sake of being alive, even without a higher purpose.
I'm somewhat of an optimistic nihilist: there is no higher meaning or goal in life and no afterlife, so the time we have & the purpose we decide on for ourselves are all the more important & valuable.
Nothing we want to do is "worthless" or "a waste of time", because there is no higher purpose we could neglect.

Well we humans also don't really know why we exist, right? But it's still sad if one of us dies

Oh I know he beat her. It was an extremely abusive relationship both physically and emotionally. I think light is probably going to be the same way to misa.

1 thing to remember is the remaining life of gelus was transferred to her.
also joker was an abusive boyfriend to Harley Quinn. she would go to extreme lengths to please him to the point where it was nauseating. but he did beat her, people seem to pick and choose what they like about that relationship

Great reaction as always 👍 you brought some interesting points in your discussion about what happens when a Shinigami dies.
