The Mist Vol 1 Chapter 45

Vol 1 Chapter 45

'I guess that old mage's name is Berman.'

Deciding to listen for now, Kapros raised his hand and pressed the accept button. The old mage Berman, who seemed to have been waiting, showed an interesting smile on his aged face.

"Do you want to know, young man?"

"...Yes."

Not only had the form of address changed from 'you' to 'young man', but his expression was also filled with an almost burdensome vitality. Kapros barely managed to suppress the urge to shake his head and answered. Berman smiled with a "hehehe" and flicked his finger towards the air. Surprisingly, a book from the highest shelf of the bookcase behind him slid out and floated down to Berman's hand.

"Actually, although I'm living in this tower now, it's not my house. Of course, it doesn't belong to the Mist Continent Mage Association either. I just came in here on my own for research."

Starting like this, Berman roughly dusted off the book and opened the first page as he spoke.

"Of course, I'm not the one who changed the tower's outer appearance. The one who cast a perfect illusion magic on this enormous tower to make it last forever was the original owner who built this tower. It's Lord Superior, the person I'm currently researching."

Lord... Superior?

"Who is Lord Superior?"

Perhaps because it was about his research field, Berman's face lit up almost like a young man's.

"He was the strongest mage in history 500 years ago, but now even his original name has been forgotten. However, the more I uncover about his achievements and journey, the more eventful it is. I believe that without him, the current Mist Continent wouldn't even exist. An unprecedented figure estimated to have become a 9th circle master while simultaneously being a Sword Master. That's Lord Superior."

For a moment, Kapros couldn't think of anything, perhaps because he had heard such an incredible story.

"...How could such a person exist?"

"He did exist. A single human who was such a genius as a mage that he even dabbled in swordsmanship, and eventually succeeded in perfectly and harmoniously handling both. For this reason, he was expelled from the mage association that pursued only magic, and even now, the general association cannot openly research him. Moreover, now even his name has been forgotten and disappeared. He has vanished from history along with many of his companions, remaining only as a legend."

Sparks flew from Berman's eyes, shining with madness.

"But isn't it proof! Here, this place! This tower, which is the living trace of Lord Superior!"

As he listened to his words, Kapros felt a certain premonition. A feeling that what he was saying now was not just meaningless chatter. After thinking for a long time about what to say, Kapros carefully opened his mouth.

"He really... sounds like an amazing person. But I don't understand why he was forgotten."

For such a great person to be remembered by no one now. It was a suspicious point that anyone would notice. Whether his response was appropriate or not, Mage Berman answered with a gloomy laugh.

"That's a reason everyone knows, but also one that no one knows. It's been several years since I accidentally discovered this place and started researching to uncover its secrets, but I still haven't been able to go above the first floor of this tower. Me, Berman, a 7th circle master. This castle is locked with very solid magic. Therefore, what I can tell you isn't much different from what everyone else knows."

After saying that, he took a breath and opened a certain part of the book.

"It's a story even a three-year-old child knows."

Berman's story that started like this continued like a fairy tale.

Long, long ago, in a very distant past. The world was in great chaos.

A demon god descended upon the world, killing people indiscriminately, and they groaned in pain, praying for the appearance of a hero.

And then, as if by miracle, seven heroes appeared.

The demon god tried to kill the heroes by sending his minions, but the heroes defeated the minions and finally fought the demon god.

The demon god was very strong, and the heroes were dying with groans.

The hero of a forgotten god tried to eliminate the demon god through his deity but failed, and the dark hero betrayed but was killed by the hand of the glorious hero of light.

The battle continued for days on end, and finally, a hero who combined sword and magic succeeded in killing the demon god.

The demon god died. When the demon god died, the demon dragon, a minion of the demon god, flew north with a long cry.

People danced with joy, but now the hero had no companions left, and the wounds were too great.

In the end, even the last hero died, and people shed tears of sorrow mourning them. There were so many tears that they formed the Moldin River in the south of the world.

But the peace they brought to this world must not be lost again.

"It's a story without even names. Strangely, everyone knows it, but it's also a story where no one tries to find out who they were."

Berman, having finished the story, spoke with deep eyes.

"But if you study this story carefully, there's a direct mention of a hero who combined sword and magic. Who do you think this might be?"

"Is it... Lord Superior?"

As Kapros spoke as if groaning, Berman nodded as if looking at an obedient disciple.

"In reality, no one knows how long Lord Superior lived or where he died. Just as we don't know who the 'hero using sword and magic' in the story is, but there are some remaining records of Lord Superior who lived long ago, there are also people we can estimate for the other seven heroes in the story, although we can't know from the story itself. But of course, as a mage, what I focus on is Lord Superior. Now, not even a part of his immeasurable great power remains."

"I see."

As Kapros nodded, Berman, who seemed about to continue the story in agreement, suddenly exclaimed "Ah!" and hit his head, then rummaged through a packed drawer and took something out.

It was a sparkling red jeweled brooch.

Ding!

That’s where I think this is going as well with him collecting allies like bees and honey. Ugh I’m anti harem so I’m really hoping it doesn’t go there.

Ahbrimone

Sooooo... seven heroes of legend = seven hidden speciality classes in the game? So far we have Kap, Kion, Yu-wan, and maybe Kran. Wonder how long until we meet the rest and if they'll be antagonists or also join Kap's little harem, lol.
