THE UNTAMED / MO DAO ZU SHI summary, Wei Wuxian and the whole cultivation world using him as the scapegoat😅. Factcheck: * Wei Ying's most powerful weapon is his mouth, Lan Zhan would know best 🙈 Felt the same about some scenes as you Topher xD Like there were scenes where they lacked action and the flow didn't quite match the atmosphere that well, but that's what we get kudos censorship xD All those Wangxian moments ugh. And finally~ you got to finish CQL~ Looking forward to you diving to the donghua then novel and manwha coz Incense Burner is waiting for you fuh~😝 Anyhow~ Just to give a bit of context to the events including the previous episode/s. Aside from the fact that they did take too effing long with all the Meng Yao talk, the others were right saying that they did need to stall time and wait for more information so they could tie up the loose ends leading them to the predicament they were in. One of which would be that array they felt when they first enter the premises of Guanyin temple. Arrays either summon or dispel elements (spirits, ghosts, fierce corpses) and seeing that the temple was built in the middle of the city they have to be careful to not make mistakes that would endanger the people. Arrays could also suppress or attract resentment energy. And since they are not sure what in the cultivation world Meng Yao was up to again, plus them losing their spiritual energy, they are basically powerless. In CQL, the spiritual energy is "heavily" tied and in proportion with their "sword skills," so unless they are like Wei Ying who have mastered both sword skills and incantations, they really can't do anything (yup hand to hand combat and other physical combat is not even considered in this world, unlike of course, Ying, who likes to engage in them for fun 🤪). Other skills that are not sword-based would consume their spiritual energy more: paper talismans and blood summons of Ying's level. Those who have high cultivation could form a spiritual bond with their swords, and other weapons. And WangXian is part of that elite line 😍. This is why Suibian sealed himself and why Lan Zhan could use Bichen handsfree. And then we have the Nie's who have a different cultivation using blades. They have actually foreshadowed this from the very beginning. Since the Nie's basically are forming a "pact" with sword spirits, having a bond with these blades are not easy and surely, as we all know, have been somewhat more of a curse to the clan with the spirits haunting and driving them mad until they qi deviate. Thus the whole story behind the Man-Eating Ridge/ Blades Ancestral Hall of the Nie's: these blades take power and pride in all the life they took and are greedy for it even after the master passed. Jumping to that scene with Baxia possessing our Cinnamon Roll, the black clouds Wen Ning saw is the exaggerated, for the purpose of cinematics, of the resentment energy from Baxia. This is one part CQL didn't blatantly say, and actually altered a lot because of censorship. But in the cultivation world, it is believed that in order to contain the resentment energy of dead people and so that they wouldn't "come back" as fierce ghosts, you need to scatter the energy, ergo, yeah... basically chop the person and scatter his parts 🙃🙃🙃. Which is why Red Blade Master's head was stitched back and we see a very resentful Baxia that was able to possess even the strongest, sentient fierce corpse, Wen Ning. Point to rewatch/revisit: Now this is why I love the foreshadowing, foregrounding, and parallelism of CQL and MDZS. If you could recall that summer when Ying and the gang first studied in Yunshen Buzhichu and he was sent out by shufu Qiren because of his "crazy" answer on "How to address the matter with the butcher with resentment energy." They were basically facing that very scenario in that moment. And to see 30yr old Lan Zhan versus that 16yr old repressed and very much boxed-in-the-3000-plus-Lan-Clan-principles boy, supporting his husband (ehem, wife) into tapping into the resentment energy of Xue Yang's Tiger tally, and even stopping his very own brother from interfering (read: Just trust my wife big brother) is just 🤌🏻❤️💙 Diving into that epic scene of Wei Ying proving he is the one and the only Yiling Laozu; everything that he was on about the resentment energy from when he was younger until his demise in his first life were validated. Considered unorthodox only because no one in the elite inner circle of the cultivation clans practices it, either because they lack the skills or the general understanding of its cultivation, and basically it's playing with a double-edged sword especially to those with weak mind, body and constitution, the Demonic Cultivation is founded on the use of resentment and honing it as a powerful source of energy -- plus you get the chance to befriend some ghosts and spirits xD who might join you willingly 😝. Since it's an already available energy, anyone even with a not so high cultivation could make use of It and could also cut down the consumption of spiritual energy thus less straining to the user. Easier said than done and technically a shortcut versus the discipline of the sword's way but equally requires "skills. Thus, the reason why Ying was able to use his sorcery after just being seated there right beside Lan Zhan being all pretty. Remember when he started whistling and finally "made friends" with the spirits/ghosts in the Guanyin temple? That's the time he guessed everything and tied all the loose ends and knew that the array set-up was suppressing resentment. If you remember while Ying was whistling there were this energy that seems to be shy or something, or probably checking things out first before they all went for Meng Yao, revealing to Ying what happened and why they are full of resentment. Can't remember if you commented on it but yep, the whorehouse where Meng Yao's mom worked and where they lived was exactly in that area before Meng Yao burned it down killing everyone. The resentment was enough for Ying to use it and have the spirits haunt Meng Yao even without using Chen Qing, though it only lasted for a little time , tsch. Kudos to Meng Yao for knowing that the blood of the source of the resentment could appease these spirits. Which proves that Meng Yao was a cunning little bastard who pretended he was weak to get the sympathy of people. He may not be at Lan Zhan level but Meng Yao is a strong cultivator as seen in the later parts of the series. Anyhow xD This is why Ying returned to chill mode after 😂 As much as he wanted to just get over Meng Yao and be lovey-dovey with his husband, he couldn't. Not until he was sure that Meng Yao has Xue Yang's Tiger tally and the grand entrance of the very much resentful and blood thirsty Baxia. If you also noticed, Wei Ying was quite cautious when he tapped into Xue Yang's Tiger Tally as opposed to his usual self when he's with Chen Qing (fortunately said Tiger tally isn't that strong, which is a given 😂 but still spiritual weapons are a pain in the bum when they throw tantrums ) And this needs to be pointed out, coz many might have overlooked it but that scene when Wei Ying was commanding both Baxia and Xue Yang's Tiger tally displays the true potential of Demonic Cultivation even in a low cultivation body with under developed core , not to mention the physical state it was in. He was out there controlling not one but two spiritual weapons, with one having the high possibility of raging out of control, more than once nonetheless. Love for the Wei Wuxian!!! (in a-Cheng tone).

Hi Topher, Thanks for the penultimate episode! We're going to miss it and miss you watching it! To be fair to Nie Huaisang or we should just call him "Director Nie" for simplicity reason, I don't think he was a goody two shoes from the start. He was just like Wuxian, a young carefree boy who had everything taken care of by his big brother, as for Wuxian he's got his beloved senior sister. They started off similar in the sense that both were reckless and playful. Reality struck him when he saw his big brother died before his eyes and especially when his brother pointed his blade at both of them with such a vengeful expression, Director Nie knew it was directed at Meng Yao. Of course, I'm basing this on my observations in the drama alone, and though I've read the novel, I think this drama deserves its own accolades for being faithful (in its adaptation) and unique at the same time. As for the big mastermind or the "creole" behind the mantis, I still think he's nothing compared to Meng Yao. Granted, his scheming and masking of himself is even leagues ahead of Meng Yao, he was never the big villain. He was just a pragmatist that he knew he couldn't fight Meng Yao alone and he needed some kind of reliable and competent person to help him avenge his dead brother. And who is more capable than the famous Yiling Partriach? Oh.. btw, you forgot to mention Wuxian got his Chen Qing back. That I think it's a nice little touch from the drama. It's not so much as to whitewash Jiang Cheng but it shows the "masked" side of him. In the public's eyes, he goes around hunting and condemning any WWX's wannabe but deep inside he really misses and cherishes his brother. It's not mentioned in the drama but it was clearly shown that Wuxian lets go of his ChenQing when he throws himself off the cliff. Jiang Cheng must have found it when he goes searching for Wuxian's body. But if he really hated Wuxian so much, why would he even keep the flute with him the whole time? You will see in the last episode that this drama has the most well-woven plots and characterisations compared to most of the C-dramas out there.

Nie Huaisang - the Academy award winning actor you are!! when I tell you i was gooped and gagged when this was first revealed and going back and rewatching there were so many signs! Now I laugh whenever i watch this episode coz EVERYBODY got played!! Also the reason why Baxia went after Su She is because he "hurt" Huisang, thats why he did it in the first place.

Felleng Nthane

He was but a boy who loved his big brother.
