Great reaction! Your ending thoughts were really interesting. I'm totally with you on looking to Dean for decisions. I learned pretty early on in this show that his instincts are almost always spot on. (He makes mistakes of course, but he has a very good sixth sense about people.) So, I trust his trepidation regarding the BMOL too. And you're right that what they're proposing sounds good. Ending all monsters sounds like a great idea. Except, not all monsters are bad. Most of them yes, but not all. What about someone like Garth, for example, and his wife and most of her family, or Benny when he was with us, or the whole nest of vampires that Gordon was trying to take out back in S2. So, while the idea of having the tools and capabilities to more easily take out monsters is useful, the American hunters and Sam and Dean in particular use their judgement and discernment when they're taking them out, which is important. Let's not forget that Ketch took out that poor, abused psychic girl with no qualms whatsoever, simply because the "Old Men" told him to. (Btw, it's like a group of higher ups calling the shots rather than just one dude cause they say "Old Men" and Ketch called them the "lads".) The BMOL leave no room for grey, and there is a lot of it in hunting. And yeah, Ketch definitely seems a little unhinged with the way he was pounding on that young girl vampire and just grinning and laughing about it. It made me love Dean even more (if such a thing were possible!) that it clearly bothered him to see what Ketch was doing, and that he put a stop to it quick. But I also love that he didn't lie to the vamp and tell her he was going to let her go. He told her truthfully that he'd "make it quick". Also, a bit off topic, I would REALLY like people to stop telling Dean that he's a killer. He kills monsters to save people, yes, but he's SO much more than that, and people reducing him to being just a "killer" makes me livid. That's been happening for almost the whole run of the show. Our boy needs hugs. 😞 Anyway, getting back to what happened during the raid, Sam says, "Tonight was bad, no doubt, but the Alpha Vampire is dead. You're changing the world, and I wanna be a part of it." But the reality is, every person at the compound would be dead if it wasn't for Sam (and Mary). The vampires would have taken them out almost immediately and the Alpha would have just strolled away. So, none of that was really because of the BMOL, it was more "in spite" of the BMOL. (Though Mick helped out with the bullet.) Oh, and just as an aside, I think the Alpha vamp brought reinforcements from other parts of the country. Cause they said there were only 11 vampires left in that one section. But I think there were a bunch more that came with the Alpha from elsewhere. Anyway, my very long point being, that what the BMOL is offering sounds tempting and has potential to be incredibly useful and important. But as always the boys have to use their judgement. The scene at the beginning between Dean and Mary (the one in your thumbnail) is utterly heartbreaking. I've read quotes from Sam Smith (who plays Mary) saying that Dean's line, "I never was." was ad-libbed by Jensen. Which just proves how perfectly he encapsulates Dean, how incredibly well he knows him. Oh, and you never have to apologize for being distracted by how absolutely gorgeous Dean is. We all get it, and have so been there. There were definitely a few moments throughout the series, where I had to shake my head and say, "hold on, I missed that" cause I was staring at Dean. 😄 This episode is a really interesting look inside the way the BMOL work, and I love all the family dynamics happening. K, I've rambled far too long! ❤️ P.S. Also, just wanted to say that I feel your "peacemaker status" within your family. I'm the same and it is exhausting.
