Over the Garden Wall Ep 9 & 10 (Finale) Reaction 【FreakFest】

To throw a wrench in the idea that the frog glowing is proof that it was all real, frogs can glow when they eat fireflies. Mr. President also wasn't glowing nearly as brightly as he did when he swallowed the bell. I like the mystery of "was it real or not"! Edit: Rewatching that last scene you can actually hear the bell. Missed that the first time. So ignore the above!

there are some official comics for this show, not sure how cannon they are but mostly just some more adventures with the gang, sara also shows up in the unknown over the wall and beatrice goes to the real world. though you would need to find the ebook versions the paperbacks were limited and are crazy expensive collector stuff

There were hints at the real nature of the Unknown all along and one of the most blatant is the title. "Over the Garden Wall" is an old euphemism for someone who has died. When you really examine the lyrics for the song our Froggy friend sang in episode 6, the one named "Over the Garden Wall", it is a song about a guy coming to terms with the loss of a loved one. Another really blatant hint was out encounter with Pottsville in episode 2. I commented that if you know what a "Potters Field" is, you could catch the twist with the town being undead early, but it was in fact another blatant hint at the greater twist of the boys being near-dead. It was a clever way to distract us from thinking too deeply about it. Then there are a ton of more subtle references to their situation that fly under the radar throughout the show.

Adding on to Raven's comment, another piece of evidence that it was real is that the frog appears to still have Auntie Whisper's bell inside him.

lol yeah this series has a such a special place in so many folk's hearts. The general consensus is that the "Unknown" was a sort of limbo people ended up before/after dying. Most folks we meet who where named in the show were marked on the gravestones in the cemetery and were from different eras, most were old but some were from older times than others etc of course its really a make of it what you will situation
