So, like, what from I understand of the Gusu Lan Sect rules in the novel, Lan forehead ribbons are traditionally only supposed to be removed by family and/or lovers/cultivation partners. Something that Wei Wuxian would know if he actually paid attention to his studies and something that Lan Wangji probably doesn't really know how to deal with happening so suddenly out of the blue, which, speaking as someone with major anxiety myself, what a Mood.

Hey man, if you could upload somewhere else other than mega would be nice, like openload/google drive maybe. Mega has download limits

Glad you are enjoying this series, it really has so much depth in the art, the direction, the music, the plot and the character development. The Ball and tassel indicated that the person wear it is part of the Jiang Clan, just like the head band indicates that someone is from the Lan Clan. At some point you should check out DongHua Reviews, his reviews are deep and he covers may of the same type of thing you do and he goes into depth some of visual symbolism that is hidden in the visuals that help to deepen the story.

I saw a post saying that in one of the earliest episode when Lan Zhan is reading/writing something the text shown to the screen explained that the ribbon can only be touched by parents/partner - so the chinese speaking audience knew from the early start the importance of the ribbon, but for some reason it's not translated which is a shame bc yeah then you get the full implications of that scene :P

I really love the visual story telling in this series! Like for example how they don't show Wen Ruohan's face, and yeah that tactic is used often in different shows for various different reasons, but especially in this one I love it because Wen clan's symbol is the sun and to me this avoiding to show his face feels natural because you can't stare straight at the sun - or otherwise you'll go blind (and I feel like this adds to the ominous feel we get from him). Also I love how when he arrives for a moment he actually walks in front of the real sun darkening everything around him. And one of the other thing this story and this adaptation is so great is giving even the minor character quite fleshed out feeling. Even if we meet then only for a moment, you get the sense of the character very quickly and they feel very real - like Wen Ning (who we btw already met in the 2nd episode...) who immediately seems very shy but eager to please and unsure of himself but kind, or Nie Minjue, Nie Huaisang's (the fan guy) older brother, who we at once can see is very temperamental, angry and proud sort of person. With very few characters feel flat or one dimensional and if so, then it's clearly on purpose. Also, Jiang Yanli, shijie, is the best and I kinda had the exact same reaction as you to her, no wonder her brothers adore her.

oh man the next few episodes is where the chaos is rly abt to begin

The forehead ribbon stands for restraint, and the Lan Sect says that you can only be totally unrestrained around your Special Person. So the Lan Clan's forehead ribbons are very personal and only their cultivation partners are allowed to touch them (Is this considered a spoiler?) So... basically, in the crudest way possible, Lan Zhan just lost his chastity lol
