Been loving your reactions to this wonderful series, which I must say is SO worthwhile watching more than once as you pick up some of the subtle things that the directors include. I have watched this series several times, although I must say it is really hard to watch episode 11, sometimes I just can't get pasted all the pain. Not sure if you are into watching other reviewers/reactors when it comes to series you are covering but I want to really recommend checking out Cuchallain of DongHua Reviews on YouTube, he goes into depth in to this series looking at the art, the music and the hidden symbolism in each episode. He continues to amaze me in the things he sees in the episodes that are so easily missed while. watching for the first time. He reviews many of the Donghua coming out of China these days. Anyway, looking forward to watching your reviews of season 2.

Great work, as usual, Teeaboo! When I saw that you watched the whole four episodes I almost passed out, had to make time to watch the full video on the same day (to get the full experience). Ended up having to eat something and feed my dog in the middle too XD Anyway, this was great! And you are right, it didn't run, it flew! But it's so worth it, rewatching both this and banana fish with your comments and reactions, I think it adds up to the experience! Also, it would be pretty cool (if you do end up going back to the beginning), to have a light quick look at you rewatching eps 1&2 . I know I keep rewatching this series way too many times! Hope real life is going ok. It's cool to get serious sometimes, we all know how shit likes to hit the fan at the worst times -_-!

Ah it was wonderful to rewatch this with you and hear your thoughts - especially about the technical stuff like animation etc which Im not that familiar with. Now I can appreciate even more the work that has been put into this. I agree that this is an excellent introduction to chinese animation and these kind of stories - though on the other hand it sets your expectations so high its very hard to find anything that compares (it was first for me too and now of course im so deep in the story and it's multiple adaptations I think I'm stuck in here). The author of this story has two others stories which will be getting donghua adaptations too but that will take some time. It's a good idea to rewatch the first 2 episodes before going into the second season (and perhaps also rewatching the very end of ep15, the present day part), as it will help later on. You pretty much already praised this so much I don't need to, but one of the things I really love and was originally surprised was the scale of everything as you also mentioned. I don't think I have ever seen an anime or western animation with a similar scale (hmm disneys Mulan being perhaps the exception) of war like we have here - at times it does remind me a bit of lord of the rings, which for me is like the highest praise (or perhaps even more the whole story reminds me of Silmarillion with it's tragic beauty, questioning white and black world view and multiple characters all with their own agendas etc.). And also I do have to say that as someone who is queer seeing this kind of story is just...it's just something very special and moving even with the censorship. Their love story is so woven into the story itself and it develops naturally like straight love story would (or even better than your average love story in all it's beautiful tragedy). Well anyways, a big thank you for your reactions and I'll wait the second season reactions with excitement! (But really kudos to this story for making me want to go through the pain over and over again - like every damn story arc hurts like hell but I cant help but to come back for more with both the donghua and the live action)

"they're already 16 and 17, are they still kids?" Wei said that(similar) line in the first episode to the woman that mother of the fatty boi

I knew you'd do all 4 eps tbh, it's hard to just wait another week to see what happens after wwx gets thrown into the burial mound and comes back. thank you so much and I'm happy to experience this again with you since I love your commentary!! I can't wait til you see what season 2 has in store, the last 2 episodes are coming out tomorrow, there's only 8 for this season but heard there's 15(?) for season 3. sadly there's only 4 episodes of season 2 subbed so it'll be a wait for the next ones to come out. Now, about what Wen Ning brought back, the 'fabric' was the fathers head piece. And idk if you noticed but the ending song changed to the one from ep 1 in ep 14 👀 and the Nie guy who cut off Wen Rouhan's eldest sons head is Nie Huaisang's (guy you said was too good for this show in the earlier eps) older brother and he's now dead (not a spoiler since it was said he died at the end of ep 15) so Huaisang is the clan leader now. I definitely recommend going back to watch the first two episodes again, you will notice a few things better.
