Yeah, when a wacky character starts to talk serious and sincere, you know they really mean it and it breaks my heart to see them like that. Same as one scene with Rebecca, when she tries to convince David to ease up on chrome. You see they really care for him and are fighting against all ods to help him, but... He is built different.

Nothing worked, and he knows he can't change his path. But he'll be a tale for the next dreamer looking to chrome up. David already has fans, even Julio. Night City chews up and spits out.

It isn't always clear to viewers just how unsafe his position was getting in the wake of that botched Tanaka job. In this setting, drawing the targeted negative attention of a megacorp basically means you're capital FUCKED. Imagine all of the political, technical and military might of a country wedged into the money-grubbing nature of a corp. Personal loyalties notwithstanding, getting an "in" with them and squaring any debts is a MASSIVE boon.
