We got to see both Delta AND Alpha go up against John Smith?! We were spoiled! Really feeling bad for Alpha though! She was so heartbroken 😭😭

Oh daaang I wonder why that didn't make the cut in the anime! That definitely would have taken a bit of the heartlessness edge off of the whole exchange lol

Bat Cat

Ohhhh cool! Beast people are the coolest! Nothing beats a pair of animal ears and a tail 😎 - Cashew

Bat Cat

We're freakin' hooked! Absolutely loving every minute of it! In my head Cid just sees everyone around him as NPC's and treats them as such 😂

Bat Cat

Lmaooo I love this show 😂 Cid just seeing everyone as NPC's also explains a loooot of his interactions

Bat Cat

Gotcha! 😂 Freakin' Cid man... But understandable he can't just say "hey so uhh, can I get some of that money" if he wants to keep up his persona

Bat Cat

Ohhhhh nice catch! Yeah I didn't realize that- Cid's a real piece of work 😁

Bat Cat

So freaking awesome! Anytime we get to see Delta fight I'm like, bouncing in my chair 😂

Bat Cat

Yeah! Definitely picked up on how he treats Delta differently than everyone else- maybe he just figures she's too wild to appreciate his drama so he doesn't bother putting up a façade 🤣

Bat Cat

I don't know if you guys picked up on it but Delta is the only person for whom Cid doesn't use any of his alter egos. He doesn't act like Shadow or do his dumb background character routine. He treats her like a pet dog, hence he completely lowers his guard and just acts like his real dorky self, you can see it very clearly here, where even with Alpha who he's known the longest he still keeps up the facade, while he just openly tells Delta he's on a secret plan and that she can't tell anyone about it.

I love Delta fighting John Smith because you know every hit she goes for is like a killing blow. Cid is stronger so I guess he doesn't worry that much about it still. Also her exploding the train car, so hype

Bocchi In Shadow

A neat detail in this episode is after Yukime explains her revenge story Cid mentions under his breath about "that thing with senpai" which is Rose, and in episode 19 of the first season Cid mentions how he thought it was a therianthrope that he saved after Rose tells how he saved her. Showing how, despite what people say, Cid is mostly listening and pieces together how he got the two events confused. :P

It's not explained so well in the anime, but in the books it explains there is a big misunderstanding over the money that Shadow Garden makes. Shadow Garden took all the knowledge Cid gave them and is making products and services to sell to support Cid and Shadow Garden. Alpha and the others assumed Cid would understand that he had access to this money, if he needed it. They never told him this, and when he finally visits the store the first time and Gamma tells him about Shadow Garden's store front and money making empire and how much money they've made, he gets upset. He doesn't realize that his name is on the bank account too and he can have the money, and the girls don't tell him because they think that he's smart enough to understand it's his money too. He never even thinks to ask, because he wants to maintain that strong, aloof, mysterious Shadow persona, and that persona wouldn't ask for a loan. It's why he stealthily steals the gold coin from the pile that Gamma presents to him. This whole arc is based on that misunderstanding.

Cid isn't deliberately cruel or exactly dumb. He is just totally clued out. He sees people as game characters with their own plots going that he doesn't understand and he thinks The girls are smarter, and mores selfish than him. He literally though when the went off (when he was 13) to spread Shadow Garden to the four winds that they had just given up on his Chunni shit and were coming back to play and humour him. He thinks their entire cult is them LARPing.

Not much to comment, ya'll picked up on a bunch of stuff right away. Very nice! I think there's a lot of interesting stuff to say in terms of Cid being a sociopath (like actually one) and the misunderstanding relationship between him and the girls but I don't want to drop like... 10 paragraphs of stuff here. xD My quick conclusion though, is that even if a lot of the story beats themselves are pretty simple, the character depth is actually crazy complex. The author is imho, a genius in that area. And this balancing act is extremely difficult to pull off so consistently, even when he might use simpler beats or parody something. So suffice to say, I'm left consistently impressed by it. Thanks for the reaction!

Fun fact, in this world the beast ppl are so powerfull that they almost conquered the human kingdomes, lack of food and boredome stopped those wars. Thats why most human kindgdomes has laws that say leave beast ppl alone

I loved seeing alpha vs cid as it really goes to show how much she wants to be by his side as an equal yet cid is just so far ahead of her that it’s like she’s always chasing his (ironically) shadow. I’m not sure how it went in the light novel but I enjoyed how the manga covered this fight a little more. The fight in the manga wasn’t on a train and after cid had basically broken alphas spirit he smiles at her and tells her she’s grown strong causing her to shed a few tears before he knocks her out. Still feel bad for alpha but it shows cid does kind of care in his own weird way.
