We do see Sein in the opening but it's a blink-and-you-miss it flash. Fern and Stark's reaction to Frieren's blown kiss was hilarious. I hope Sein finds his friend. Maybe his friend is just REALLY BAD at directions. But I like your idea that maybe the friend fell in love and is raising kids and keeps meaning to go back to get Sein but is just so busy, what with one thing and another. Or maybe Sein accompanies them all the way to Heaven and his friend is waiting for him there and says "What took you so long?" and we all drown in our tears.
