Those lines do represent the loops- and there is 50 to 60 of them! As to getting shorter- the thing that is like a play bar is moving right to left as they scroll past right? That is backwards for a normal time bar - so The longer ones are the oldest.. Is it just each one represents the length of time that has passed?
