The two youkai were able to stay in the purified area after the wave came since the purification wave was only strong enough to purify "low-level" youkai. But they clarify to Natsume afterwards that the two of them aren't "low-level" but "mid-level" -- chu-kyuu. So that's why Natsume refers to them as "chu-kyuu."
2020-06-03 05:25:25 +0000 UTCThe deal isn’t “when Natsume is done with it” it’s when Natsume dies (which Nyanko implies is inevitable if he’s dealing with angry youkai). Which makes Natsume’s casual “yeah, sure” to the deal heartbreaking, because it means Natsume, too, figures this will likely get him killed...but he doesn’t care very much.
