I don't like Matoba but I do enjoy his character and he is a perfect "antagonist" for Natsume. But damn Matoba knows how to manipulate Natsume to help him. Such good episodes

2020-12-23 12:41:57 +0000 UTCGods I love the amount of world building this gives, quite honestly re-watching this I actually forgot how much detail and focus the series gives to the entire set up of exorcists in the real world setting Natsume takes place in. I also love how horrible a person matoba is for all the reasons you mentioned. Fuck this creepy piece of shit but also as a narrative element I love how quickly having someone with completely and 100% immoral objectives forces Natsume to need to step up for himself when otherwise in other settings with the same kind of people he probably wouldn't have. It shows that he has that potential to recognize and understand what is being done to others and hopefully reflecting that line of thinking back on himself in that what other people have done to /him/ wasn't ok either.
