Catra's Tattoo's

Some placements might move and I'm designing a family tattoo at the moment which will be added later. If I think of any more tattoos I'll add them in and update the post.

Every tattoo comes with a story.

Lion tattoo on her left thigh/hip: When Catra was a child, she was pretty lonely. She didn't have many friends so her mum got her a Cat which she called Clawdeen.

She was from an animal shelter and they were told she was probably around 15 when they got her. She was fluffy and grey with a mane of hair around her regal face. She was sweet and patient with the young magicat and Catra loved her dearly. But she was old.

When Catra was 13 she went away on a school trip for two weeks and when she returned her mother told her that Clawdeen had passed. Catra was distraught and, to comfort her, her mother told her the belief that if a pet passes while you are travelling, they give their life to save yours.

Catra hadn't told her mother that she almost drowned on her trip, she wasn't a strong swimmer and she slipped into a river while playing. She firmly believed Clawdeen gave her life so Catra could take that next breath. This is Catra's favourite tattoo.

Scorpion tattoo on her sternum: Catra is a Scorpio and as a teenager she always believed she had to be the venom and the one to strike first. She was impulsive and brash. She didn't care who she hurt, but after some therapy she grew up she learned she didn't always have to be the pincer or the stinger, she could be the flower.

Jellyfish Tattoo on her right hip: This is her first tattoo after she turned 18 and she got it for the silliest reason. She was a bit of a late bloomer, since she didn’t have many friends she didn’t have her first crush until she was 16. Her crush was on one of her closest friends and when they found out she was moving away Catra faced her fears of the ocean to take her on a special beach not-date. Catra was only in the water for maybe 10 minutes before she was stung on the hip by a jelly fish. She was wearing a little skirt over her bathers, and it got caught under neither.

While getting medical attention from the lifeguard, her friend offered to kiss it better. Catra thought she was joking so agreed and received her first kiss. The jelly fish is a reminder that even in bad situations good things can still happen.

The cat paw on her chest: It took a long time for Catra to get another Cat. She was in her early 20’s, with her own house and a job when she found a tiny grey kitten by the dumpsters of her apartment complex. She couldn’t just leave him there and in a way, he made her think of Clawdeen, but for once she didn’t feel sad. So, Melog moved in and became her whole heart.

Bite me <3 on her lower back: Biting is very important in magicat culture and Catra embraces her culture whole heartedly. This is not a threat; this is a suggestion.

Sapphic cuffs on her upper back: Catra is gay, that is so surprise to anyone, but she didn’t want to get a tattoo of something boring to show her gayness. So, she’s a gay woman who also likes to be tied up and restrained. Much more interesting.

Half a Sunflower on the back of her head: Catra has an undercut to show off this tattoo. She enjoys sunflowers for their ability to track the light. When they can’t find the sun, they look to each other for the light. She can appreciate that quality in a plant. If you can’t find the light, look for those who bring light to your life.

Sword and mask on the back of her right thigh: This is Catra’s most embarrassing tattoo, she avoids wearing skirts because of this tattoo. Don’t know if you’ve heard of this show called, She-ra? It’s great, it has buff ladies and lesbians. Not only was it great for lesbians everywhere but it was excellent magicat representation in the media. Catra became obsessed with the show when it came out in her late teens. So after her hilarious jellyfish tattoo, she decided to get this show immortalised on her body. If you ask her about it now, she will say it's in support of Magicat media and queer representation, nothing to do with She-ra’s biceps.

“The only constant is change”, infinity symbol on her left forearm: Catra’s grandmother always says this to her when she calls looking for advice. She now lives in another city but Catra takes her teachings onboard, and she was lucky enough to have the guidance of four strong women leading her through life. Change is inevitable, so it's time to adapt.

Mayan Glyph Space Cat on her left upper arm: Catra didn’t get to go on many trips as a child. But one year she and her family travelled to the Mayan temples. Catra loved the glyphs but noticed they didn’t have one with a cat on it. For the whole trip she looked for cats but didn’t see any. So, she decided she would make her own. She spent hours creating this space cat and it was the start of her journey as an artist. Years later she got Lonnie to cement her idea into an artwork and it was added to the stories on her skin.

Stay, hands clasping wrists on her right forearm: Catra never knew her father. He left when she was young. Catra was raised by her single mother, grandmother and her two aunts. This is a constant reminder to herself to do what her father never could. When things get tough, you stay.

Cat ear heartbeat on right upper arm: Family is like a heartbeat. Catra's family is made up of her mother, her two aunties and her grandmother.
