However, Nico Robin is intercepted by a group of pirates who capture her using sea stone. The pirates have dealings with Doflamingo and blackmail Nico Robin into posing tied up for them in exchange for saving her friends (especially those on the Thousand Sunny). The archaeologist has no choice but to comply with her captors' demands.
