"Simon's kitchen" + making-of

And here comes the first of the announced artworks! 😃 I realized I have WAY too few illustrations for Black & Blue. There’s just not enough artwork representing this universe! I always focus on the series itself but rarely on its visual presentation – even though I LOVE drawing artworks!

So, during my break, I worked on a cozy illustration: “Simon’s Kitchen”! 🥛✨ My goal was to create a mood that captures what Simon’s home looks like and how he moves in his own space. Contrary to what one might expect, Simon is NOT chaotic – at least not like Derek! He’s neither obsessively tidy nor drowning in filth. And that makes total sense: Simon was homeless for a long time, so he deeply values his little apartment. Plus, ironically, he learned how to live a stable life from Derek of all people. He doesn’t even smoke anymore! 😆

To symbolize that (and for another… naughty reason 😏), I had him drink milk. Simon, the healthy, cheeky masochist boy. He also takes great care of his chinchilla, Cottonball – yet another proof that pets often resemble their owners. 😂

The illustration was meant to have a subtle erotic touch: the milk, slight rope burns on his skin, some faint marks… Simon’s ever-present slutty aura. Kito’s first reaction to the finished piece? A scornful: “Of course the milk is dripping from his mouth, the slut.” 😂 I LOVE it when he insults Simon!

Another small detail: Simon’s hair is short again in this image. I decided he gets a haircut specifically for the club scene – after all, he wants to make a good impression on the new sub. Whenever there’s “fresh meat,” Simon is INSTANTLY ready! 😆 Also, adult Simon has some tattoos that haven’t been visible before because he’s been bundled up in warm clothes up until now.

I documented the entire creation process with screenshots. The background is ALMOST entirely “pre-made,” but it’s actually a SketchUp model I built myself. There are pre-made models you can buy (which I often use for the comic, of course, with adjustments), but for standalone illustrations, I prefer building my own to have full control over every detail. Plus, it’s so much fun!

After filtering the background and adding it to my working file, I moved on to the actual illustration: sketching, inking, flat colors, and then effects – not just on the character but also on the background, so everything blends harmoniously.

I hope you enjoy this kind of content for a change. 😊 It’s been great for me to try something different and experiment. While working on this, I discovered an absolutely AMAZING digital pen from True Grit Textures, which I’m OBSESSED with! 😍 It’s just so refreshing to reset and explore new creative approaches.

Und hier kommt das erste der angekündigten Artworks! 😃 Mir ist aufgefallen, dass ich VIEL zu wenige Illustrationen rund um Black & Blue habe. Es fehlt einfach an Bildmaterial zu diesem Universum! Ich arbeite immer nur an der Serie, aber kaum an der visuellen Präsentation drumherum – dabei LIEBE ich es, Artworks zu zeichnen!

Deshalb nutze ich meine Pause, um ein gemütliches Motiv zu kreieren: “Simon’s Kitchen”! 🥛✨ Mein Ziel war es, eine Atmosphäre zu erschaffen, die zeigt, wie es bei Simon zu Hause aussieht und wie er sich in seinen eigenen vier Wänden bewegt. Entgegen der Erwartungen lebt Simon NICHT chaotisch – zumindest nicht so extrem wie Derek! Er ist weder penibel sauber noch völlig im Chaos versunken. Das ist nur logisch: Simon war lange obdachlos und schätzt seine kleine Wohnung enorm. Zudem hat er – ironischerweise von Derek – gelernt, ein stabiles Leben zu führen. Er raucht ja nicht mal mehr! 😆

Um das symbolisch darzustellen (und aus einem anderen, höhö… zweideutigen Grund 😏), habe ich ihn Milch trinken lassen. Simon, the healthy, cheeky masochist boy. Außerdem kümmert er sich liebevoll um sein Chinchilla Cottonball – mal wieder ein Beweis, dass Haustiere oft ihren Besitzern ähneln. 😂

Das Bild sollte eine unterschwellige Erotik ausstrahlen: die Milch, leichte Rope-Burns auf der Haut, dezente Striemen… Simons Grundvibe von Sluttiness, der ihn einfach IMMER umgibt. Kitos erste Reaktion auf das fertige Bild? Ein verächtliches: “Natürlich läuft ihm die Milch aus dem Mund, der Slut.” 😂 Ich liebe es, wenn er Simon beleidigt!

Noch ein kleines Detail: Simons Haare sind auf dem Bild wieder kürzer. Ich habe beschlossen, dass er sich für die Club-Szene extra die Haare schneiden lässt – schließlich will er beim neuen Sub einen guten Eindruck hinterlassen. Taucht „Frischfleisch“ auf, ist Simon SOFORT ready! 😆 Außerdem hat der erwachsene Simon einige Tattoos, die bisher nicht zu sehen waren, weil er in der einen Szene, in der er zu sehen war, gut eingepackt war.

Den Entstehungsprozess habe ich für euch in Screenshots festgehalten. Der Hintergrund stammt FAST komplett aus der „Dose“, ist also ein selbst gebautes SketchUp-Modell. Es gibt fertige Modelle, die man kaufen kann (und die ich für den Comic oft nutze, natürlich angepasst), aber für Einzelbilder baue ich sie gerne selbst, um die Komposition exakt so zu gestalten, wie ich sie haben will. Außerdem macht es eine Menge Spaß!

Nachdem der Hintergrund gefiltert und in die Arbeitsdatei eingesetzt wurde, ging es an die eigentliche Illustration: Sketchen, Inken, Flat-Colors und dann Effekte – nicht nur für die Figur, sondern auch für den Hintergrund, damit alles harmonisch zusammenpasst.

Ich hoffe, euch gefällt diese Art von Content zur Abwechslung. 😊 Mir tut es auf jeden Fall gut, mal was anderes zu machen und neue Dinge auszuprobieren. Dabei habe ich z. B. eine absolut geniale digitale Feder von True Grit Textures entdeckt, die ich LIEBE! 😍 Es lohnt sich einfach, zwischendurch mal zu resetten und kreativ neue Wege zu gehen.
