Patreon Changes Going Forward
Added 2019-07-24 19:24:18 +0000 UTCSo it's been nearly a month since I first opened this Patreon, and the experience has been rather enlightening. I've had a chance to get my feet wet and see how the whole tier system has been working out for me and my busy schedule, and I've decided that it's best if I revamp the whole thing.
In addition to the commissions I offer through my Patreon tier, I've also been offering commissions outside of Patreon, and I've noticed this has caused a lot of confusion among new clients that have approached me for stories. After it happened too often to be a coincidence, I realized something needed to change. There's little point in offering commissions two different ways, so I'm removing the higher tiers on Patreon that granted commissions for subscribing.
What does that mean for you as a current Patreon subscriber?
If you've already pledged to me this month, you will be grandfathered into whichever tier you currently have. That means as long as you don't unsubscribe, you will continue to receive the benefits you initially signed up for. You can still see your tier on the sidebar in grey, but you (and everyone else) can no longer sign up for them. This change will mostly impact new subscribers, not any of you.
I've decided to keep the $5 tier as is with a benefit of a 500-word count simply because I like the idea of a "baseline" sort of commission that people can buy at a cheap rate. 500 words isn't a big ask of me, and I kind of like the creativity involved in writing them.
What are the new tiers going to look like?
Well I haven't decided yet. I had initially planned to switch from a "per monthly" plan to a "per creation" plan, but that is no longer an option for me due to Patreon's dumb policies. Maybe they'll change that in the future.
So as of right now, there are no purchasable tiers above $5. I want to come up with an idea that is both worth the purchase price and doesn't involve just boringly giving out commissions. I want to be creative with the upper tiers, and that's just going to take time while I think.
But yeah, that's the new way of things. Again, to all my current Patreons, things will continue to be business as usual. When the new month rolls by and you're charged for your current tier, you can fully expect your 1,000 or 3,000-word story (oddly enough no one ever signed up for the 2,000-word tier) to enter my queue. I'll send out messages/e-mails asking what your ideas are as I always have, and you can expect it to be completed before the end of the month.
Thank you again for supporting me. My ideas may seem a bit scatterbrained at times, but I'm still trying to figure out a way that allows you all to support me yet still give me the time I need to write these stories that originally made you fans in the first place.
