Discord?

Okay, so, I've been asked a few times about a Discord for Unintended Cultivator. Honestly, I've been really hesitant to entertain the idea because I really only started using Discord about three weeks ago.

In brief, Eric's Discord Mastery Level = emoji poop. I'm not even really sure what a book-related discord should have on it.

So, with that information about my discord competence in hand, I thought I'd let you weight in on the subject. Vote and/or comment below.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind.

If you do start one and need some mods, I've got experience creating/running small to mid size ones and would be willing to help.

I don't participate in book related discords, there's not much to running them, and the only thing anyone in the discord has in common is they read your book, or read books. I think primarily book discords are ways for Authors to announce projects or events surrounding their works, like audio book stuff, or official releases. They're also often great time wasters if you get easily caught up in management.

Don’t think it’s worth your time tbh. It can be a place for people to find recs similar to your novels but I use reddit for that. Thanks soul out there on reddit progressionfantasy for sending me this gem!

Personally, I think managing and monitoring a discord would eat up your writing time. I'd only suggest it if it was something that would make you happy yourself - if chatting with people like that was motivating/rewarding for your

An Eric Dontigney discord would be tight

Discord only really works when you have some Mods you can trust. If you're not super comfortable with it and have people that manage it regularly it becomes a cess really quickly. It CAN be great but the growing pains must be endured before it gets there and its a lot of time investment.

I am currently up to my ears in discord servers for authors I follow, I personally interact with most of them very rarely if at all. But! I feel like all these authors must be doing it for a good reason, building a sense of community among the fans is my guess. I haven't asked them.

I suppose the attraction is mostly that you can divide things into specific topic areas.

Eric Dontigney

I'd say start a discord only if and when you actually want to. Having a whole new platform to learn and juggle when you don't necessarily want it sounds beyond tiresome. But maybe that's just me.

Heraclitus

Tbh, I don't see the point of discord if you already have a channel for connecting with fans.
