| Full Length | The Hobbit an Unexpected Journey

We are going back to Middle Earth today with hobbits and Dwarves and Dragons OH MY! A delightful start to our hobbit trilogy journey. This is a watch along version to the full length movie *not extended version, sadly I couldn't get my hands on the extended version for this reaction.* But the journey is marvelous non the less.

I'mm so glad you finally found your way to the Patreon! I did not notice they used the same landmarks! But what a treat. oddly the subscription service I use has the extended version for the third hobbit movie but not the first two quite odd. The Air New Zeland video is so funny!!! what a treat that would be to see in flight

I feel so silly - I hadn't even checked whether there was a Patreon account until earlier today. Your smile at recognising the Shire theme music when it was played at the start of the movie - wonderful! The original book was a children's book and consequently much more episodic than "The Lord of the Rings" which has the feel of a complicated saga. So that's why the crises in this story never seems to end - out of the frying-pan into the fire. Indeed that is actually the title of one of the chapters in the book. The mark Gandalf leaves on Bilbo's door is the G-rune (for Gandalf) - it's in the table in the appendix at the back of LOTR. It's the same mark he scratches on the stone that Strider finds on Weathertop. Gandalf also marks his fireworks with the same rune as mentioned in the first chapter of LOTR. Did you recognise the location with the ruins on the top of a hill of the scene when the orc is delivering bad news and we, the viewer, first get to see that Azog is still alive? That was Weathertop (Amon Sul) where Frodo was stabbed. Another location that was deliberately reused in this film was in the flashback of the battle outside Moria when Azog beheads Thror. That was the same place that the Fellowship paused, mourning the loss of Gandalf, before Aragorn got everyone moving again. I wasn't sure if you picked up that Balin (the dwarf with the white beard) was the same dwarf whose tomb we discover in Moria. Also, the final writer of the book they find in the tomb was Ori (played by Adam Brown in the Hobbit movies) and he would have died in Moria too - he is probably the one they find holding the book. The Extended movie edition does add a number of scenes and, which would probably appeal to you, some more songs. Actually, one of the additional songs in the Extended edition is not taken from "The Hobbit" but comes from LOTR - a song that we've seen in the Book-Club. I was a bit disappointed not being able to see your reaction upon recognising it. There's a prop used in the Extended edition that people could recognise from the LOTR movies - but perhaps we'll keep the details until you're able to view the Extended versions. Air New Zealand replaced their boring pre-flight safety videos with a few Hobbit-styled versions when the movies came out. Here's one for "An Unexpected Journey" if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBlRbrB_Gnc

Hi LIPPS. Ohh.. here we go.. its "Hobbit" Journey time. I love the songs in this movie. 1: The Fire Song. (A very Touching song) 2: The Cleaning Up Song (beautifull, and funny) And the first song, would make Bilbo sign the papers to start his Journey "i think" Alltho he's a Hobbit of Bag-End, he's still curious and Adventurous😉. So here we go❤. Ray.
